I don't really care how many ladies are in a story as long as they interact with each other. I mean, I'm gonna ship them regardless but it's easier when you have more subtext.

I do love it when something has a ton of great female characters, but there are also stories I love that don't. Animorphs, and the earlier seasons of Red vs Blue for example.

By the way, when Alison Bechdel started Dykes to Watch Out For she intended to have no male characters, because she wanted male readers to be made to identify with female characters. But iirc the story got kind of stagnant after a while, so she wrote the child of one of the couples as a male and later introduced more supporting male characters, some of which are trans* and...this actually doesn't really have a point I just think it's interesting!
