I don't know. I actually see a huge difference between observation of people and people reading private books. She never, if I recall, went through peoples' stuff or whatever just observed them in the open (and yeah, she snuck around some to do it). I would have no problem if people went and did the same to her - following her around and writing down what she did. But going to a private journal and reading it and making it public...yeah, way crossing a line in my opinion.

Except for Harrison Withers, and Mrs. Plummer and her maid, and Hong Fat's family and George Waldenstein. Harrison and Mrs. Plummer were in their houses. The Hong Fat crew and Mr. Waldenstein were in the back room of the store. These are all very definitely private spaces, by law and by custom. I know I'd be pretty freaked out if I found out that someone was watching me in my house, and that goes for most people I know.

Like I said in my other reply, I know Harriet's actions weren't malicious -- she's clueless and young, not evil. But I don't think I can quite accept that there was nothing at all wrong with what she got up to.
