OH DEAR GOD NOT FRENCH PEOPLE.

MOTHERFUCKING CHRIST.

WHY? WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE THE FRENCH?

The rage! It begins as a spark in the pit of my stomach, subtle and slow, and builds into a raging conflagration that all but consumes my conscious self. I MAY AS WELL BE THE GODDAMN HULK. And it's all because you carelessly mentioned the French.

No, anon. I am not okay. Once it has begun, it cannot be stopped. It must burn itself out.

The consequences can, at times, be dire. Wars have sprung from the rantings of those who share my affliction. I am the scion of a shameful legacy, and woe unto me that I cannot turn from it. It is in my blood, putrid and infectious, and I have little control over its influence. I can but lock myself away and hope not to offend those who've had the misfortune to be born on a mass of land unfavorable to my disposition.

BUT GOD, THE FRENCH. WITH THEIR BAGUETTES AND THEIR RUFFLES AND THEIR NASAL INFLECTIONS AND THEIR PRETENTIOUS ART. Their arrogant cowards. They hide behind a mask of "sophistication," and run from provocation or censure. They believe themselves to be above and yet have sired no empire and won no great war (nay, they have simply ridden on the coattails of others while simultaneously disdaining them).

I will not respond to what logical and rational perspectives you may impart. It is not that I do not want to; it is only that, in my current state, I am incapable. I am lost to the madness of my curse. I can see vague outlines beyond the veil, but I cannot reach or access them; my brain shuts down at the point of acquisition. Thus, though there is a part of my that recognizes the ridiculousness of my feelings, I am prevented from articulating anything beyond stereotypical ranting.

Also I am super intrigued by a French Big Brother now. Everyone in the secret looks infinitely more interesting than the people in the American season I watched.

Example of the secrets we have on Secret Story: The blond girl labelled as the best is Nadège (Disclaimer: she really was and is the best). She got in the House with Thomas, the guy on the bottom picture, talking to the one with <3 on his face (that would be Sacha), pretending to be brother and sister even though they met just before entering the House.

It lasted very long imo as a secret before the truth was discovered by the other inhabitants: people are used with the SS producers to recruit fake lovers or people who are together but have to pretend they don't know each other, so there not getting found out right away was amazing. Cherry on top was that Nadège fell in love with her fake brother. I agree with the anon who posted the secret: I wouldn't want any of my friends to know I watched the show, but damn, Nadège and Thomas kept on making me leave work earlier and earlier in order to be there for the daily recap.

Yes, because I misread your comment, I thought you had understood that the French big brother is about having a secret.

It's called Secret Story, everybody gets in with a secret they have to keep. You're supposed to find out the others' secret to gain their money. Some secrets are so cheesy, they don't remain secrets for longer than 10 minutes. Every week, some contestants get nominated and the French people get to vote for their favorite candidates to stay in the House.

It's the "new and improved" Big Brother, as the French were bored with having to watch people living together in a house, à la Big Brother. We had that show ten years ago, It was called Loft Story or sthg (because it took place in a loft). It lasted two years ago and was soooo boring. So for the last 6 years, we've had people with secrets, who are living together in the house.

They all obey to La Voix, aka the Voice, who is somebody we never see but who entrust some players with missions, such as making other people guess wrong secrets about them, or asking them to pretend to fall in love/lust, knowing that they will win 10.000€ if the other inhabitants don't guess it's a mission.

Also, the French players have a couple of rooms in the house where they can't be filmed/recorded, and they have 2 hours a day when all cameras are shut down, as per French regulation. Those two daily hours are usually the moment stuff happen and when you watch the daily recap, you keep wondering why X and Z are arguing when yesterday they were love birds.

During the weekly big show, when one contestant gets eliminated, we get to see many of the things the production made sure not to show in the daily recap, and it's extremely addictive. You know while watching it that you're watching people who must have a less than average IQ trying to outbest each other by guessing other people's secrets, but it's like chocolate. You keep coming back for more.

Yeah. Everything you just said sounds way more interesting than what I saw.

I FEEL EXACTLY THE SAME. Well, by that I mean that I love Nadège and I longed for a fandom... But I spent so much time during this season of Secret Story imagining the fanfiction I wish I could read. By the last three weeks I was seriously shipping Nadège/Audrey. (Seriously! Adorable together!! And the size difference! And the picnic! And the devotion! So freakin cute) And I'm like, "what are you doing this is a stupid French reality show it's barely better than fangirling Jersey Shore stop it right now"! But I couldn't stop. I fell in love with Nadège, I think, to be perfectly honest... PERFECT WOMAN. And she's not even from France, which is a plus for me! XD (I'm an American with a Belgian bias lolz)
So yeah. I'm sure I'm not looking for the same kind of fandom you're looking for. Which means I think I might be the only person in the world in my fandom.... That's sort of cool I guess. CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, PLEASE. We could form a minuscule fandom together... All my fics will be in English though because my French might finally be good enough to watch and understand all of Secret Story (it only took three years of immersion!) my writing is not fic-worthy.
This ended up being a lot longer than I wanted. If the OP is French, sorry. This is what happens when a crazy fandom-obsessed American starts watching French reality TV, I guess.
Also, for the record, I'd like to add that I've never been interested in RPF ever. I don't understand what happened. Or maybe I do, because seriously, you see that blonde girl Nadège? She is AMAZING. In pretty much every single way, ever.
