After letting it slip in a conversation about sex that I'm a virgin and intend to keep it that way.

My sympathies. People get so weird about other people's sexual lives.

I don't even understand why people care. Someone having sex all the time is not ruining your celibacy just like how a virgin isn't ruining your sexyfuntimes.

Heh. I'm not a virgin and have no plans to stop having sex, but back when I was a virgin, a lot of people had the same reaction. If it wasn't the "How can you stand it?" thing, then they'd either act really impressed, as if I'd just let it slip that I climbed Mount Everest or something, or look really embarrassed and change the subject like it wasn't appropriate to talk about sex around me. Drove me nuts, but it was also kind of funny since it offered a reflection of the narrow-mindedness and insecurities of the people having these reactions.

Yeah, I get the same reactions.

Or, you can get the very supportive reaction and then when a guy makes the same admission the same person reacts with, "What is wrong with you?" Very hypocritical.

But yeah, people's reactions to it tell me a lot about them.

Oh, God, I hate the stereotype of virgins as sex-phobic or sexually naive (or both).

Makes you wonder how they think anyone actually manages to start having sex in the first place.

omg LOL I deal with all these reactions too! Like if you're a virgin you're actually prepubescent so they better not say dirty things around you.

Except when it doesn't. Nothing is more awkward than a fake pick-up line being taken as an actual pick-up line. :/

Augh, that's never happened to me. The people have always shut up after that and gone away with their tail between their legs.

Conversely: I have an aunt who insists that not being a virgin makes you "look used" and "makes your butt big"--but apparently only if you aren't married.

Does that mean if you have sex before marriage and then get married your butt will miraculously shrink?

No, I don't think it goes in reverse--more like, once your butt gets big from premarital sex, it's doomed to be big forever. At least, that's my guess--I don't really want to get my aunt started on the subject.

Meanwhile, here I am, a virgin with a huge butt...

You know, big butts are awesome, anon. And so are small butts. Butts are buttacular and no one should feel bad about their butt.

Yup, a marriage certificate will magically prevent this because you're body knows you are lawfully wed and will keep that fat - which is totally a thing that sex causes - out of your rear!

Huh, where I come from people would side-eye you for NOT being a virgin, especially if you're single.

I find people tend to harass other people who don't have the exact same sexual mores/preferences/kinks/ideals as them. No matter what you do or think or feel about sex, someone somewhere thinks you're wrong and feels the need to 'educate you' on the proper way to do/think/feel about sex.

Can't escape it.
