Don't know if this really fits, but once my mother and I got into an argument because she compared Obama to Hitler.

My mother compared Mitt Romney to a rapist because he said a mean thing that made a woman cry or something. And then strenuously defended her position.

For people who think only right-wingers engage in hyperbole

A girl I know said, in all seriousness, she didn't want Romney to win the election because "he'll be like Pharaoh and oppress the Jews"

My dad admitted to me tonight that he gave the opposite answers as he would on a political phone survey he got the other night so that the poll would be skewed and the opposite side would get "false confidence" and get "complacent" and slack off in fighting for their candidate.

I pointed out to him that each side is acting like the apocalypse will happen if their person isn't elected so I couldn't see either side becoming complacent...
