For the record: Spoony has said (in his To Boldly Flee commentary) his leaving the Site is mostly a business decision and is not related to the stuff with Lupa.

...and you believe that?

He was dismissed after he went on an insane rampage against his coworkers for daring to disagree with him. Either this is the most coincidental "business decision" ever, or he was let go because he was fucking nuts.

...and you believe that?

I honestly don't know. I'm stating what he said. He did say he was put on three-month suspension for his actions, and decided not to come back.

To be fair Rob stated that Spoony did leave and that he wasn't fired. :P

(Anonymous) 2012-09-22 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, yes it was. To phraphase him: "I don't need your money and you don't need my drama."

The thing on twitter really only expedited the whole thing.

And I believe this thread just proved secret's poster's point...

we, as fans, shouldn't even know about this things.

Why not?

Other than the potential "because it's not in the company's interest" (which could be true for a number of reasons, but could also be untrue for pretty much equally as many) has knowing any of this really affected how you watch videos or whether you go to TGWTG or Spoony's site or Blip to find them?

And as I said in a reply elsewhere -- no one got on a PA system and FORCED you to know this. You asked.

I'll try to explain myself as best as I can, and if I misspeak, I'm sorry before hand. Tl:dr version? I think fans shouldn't ask.

First of all, no, *I* didn't ask. In fact, although I follow most of the shows in TGWTG, I've been actively trying to avoid knowing about their personal lives more or less since Spoony broke up with Scarlett. Why? Because it's none of my damn business, and I think that, out of respect to them, fans shouldn't be actively looking for their personal information, at least not outside of what they choose to tell us in the videos themselves. And yet? I've found out about most of the dramas since them because sooner or later someone (a fan), comments about it in communities I frequent for other, non TGWTG content. And this is no fault of any of the contributors, but of the fans, and it is the fans who should stop sticking their noses into things. Taking the Spoony/Lupa incident as an example? As public as it was in twitter? There shouldn't be any sf_Drama, fandomwank_report, or similar threads around discussing Lupa's so-called fault. They had a public fall out, they fixed it behind closed doors, gave two statements, and fans should stop trying to fan the flames trying to make it bigger or a real Spoony vs. Lupa thing.

My problem is not with the contributors, or with what they choose to share with us, but with the fans' attitudes about it.

And yes, it did affect how I watched videos for a while, as knowing certain things made them incredibly awkward for me to watch. I like the videos, I admire many of them. But I think that the lengths some fans go to find information about their personal lives and to broadcast said information... it's a tad unhealthy.

So when I mentioned "This thing", I wasn't talking about the original tweet. I'm not even going to suggest that Spoony or anyone who has a web-based show stops hanging around social networks. I was talking about all the wank that followed caused by fans trying to second guess everyone's thoughts on the matter.

(FWIW, I also heard the stalking rumor. I don't remember if it was in sf_drama, or in the wank report, but it was being touted as fact)

Okay, I get what you're saying, and I agree. I recently discovered (long after the fact) that there's a thread in one of those anon wank report comms about me full of people arguing about shit I could have very easily explained if anyone had, you know, ASKED ME. By the time I found out about it, it was too old for there to be any point in posting a response to anyone there, no one's reading anymore.

So I agree that it's bad form for people to gossip and make assumptions about prople's personal lives, but having public Twitter and Facebook and whatever else accounts is a good thing because it gives people the option of at least trying to get the story straight by going directly to the people involved. Sometimes it's none of their damn business and they probably won't get a reply, but sometimes it's a matter of clearing up a misunderstanding and people may welcome the opportunity to explain themselves rather than have assumptions made.

But I think that the lengths some fans go to find information about their personal lives and to broadcast said information... it's a tad unhealthy.

I've really only seen this happen with drama-wank BS. In fairness to the fans, even the ones who will go to town being all judgmental about shit they don't need to care about will still, in my experience, draw a line at trying to ferret out REALLY personal information, like home addresses and phone numbers and whatnot. Some people WILL find that and decide to broadcast it, but the few times I've seen that done, I've also seen a massive effort to shut that shit up from the fans and people on the site. A lot of fan blogs have policies about respecting the privacy of producers and will delete any posts made that break those rules. On the whole, I think the fandom knows the difference between gossip and getting involved on a genuinely creepy level. It does happen, but it's not something fandom as a whole seems to be very tolerant of.

Thank goodness I explained myself coherently.

Yes, my problem is with the gossip and sort of stalkery threads (I believe that during the Spoony thing there was someone going on an on about calling Spoony's family for some such and I was going "What?! Do you guys *really* think they don't know? And even if they don't... how the hell did you get their phone number? And WHY are you getting involved at all?") Not with the collaborators or the way you guys deal with us and what you choose to share with us. Unfortunately, as minimal as the wanky faction of the fandom is, they're still very loud, and that reflects very badly on the fandom to outsiders.

Personally, since I do enjoy a lot of the videos in TGWTG, I just try to shield myself from the wank bs. Unfortunately, with the huge ones, it seems to be impossible and that's what I was commenting. When I said that this thread proved the point what I meant was... why are we again going -and broadcasting to those who didn't know about it- about the Spoony vs. Lupa thing?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-22 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
suuuuuuuure it was, spoony cakes just keep thinking that
