People in my Psych class were really upset at the suggestion that gay people could "mate". Gay people are fine, they have no problem with gay people, but apparently we can't use the word "mate" when referring to our partners because we're incapable of biologically reproducing. Because that is the definition of "mate".

Other than that I hear a lot of homophobic and racist shit at work. It's really amazing how honest people are when they think everyone in the room is cis and heterosexual.

Oh, and on the topic of voter ID laws: "Well everybody has an ID! You need it to buy beer!"

And there was also a woman who said bipolar disorder and social anxiety disorder don't exist, because TV told her so.

If the "mate" issue comes up in your Psych class again, ask those people how they feel about Australians.

Ah, unfortunately that class ended about five years ago. I do think that was brought up but at that point the discussion was really...um...passionate and I think we left without covering anything else.
