"Would this character do that?"

You know, maybe they would? The word "uncharacteristic" has existed since long before kink memes were ever a thing. Real people do things that are uncharacteristic for them; it stands to reason that fictional ones would, too.

And, bigger picture, what's so wrong with imagining characters in OOC scenarios, I mean, seriously? Who exactly gets hurt here? The fic that results is not to your taste, and that's...really about it. Not exactly the end of the world, imo.

I know it'd be awesome if everybody's imagination worked the same way yours does, and everyone's brain interpreted every piece of canon the same way your brain does, OP, and then every work of fiction could earn your stamp of approval, but what'd also be awesome is if people could go their own way and not be judged for it when they do.
