Yeah, I'll always find it a little weird how quickly the fandom leaped onto that...particular pairing. Everyone can ship what they want, but I still find it weird. *shrug*

I ship Shizaya/Izuo, but I also ship these two. I always thought Mikado and Masaomi would have been great together, I wish there were more fics of them too.

You're not alone, OP. I ship Kida and Mikado like burning, and Shizaya never interested me. It's just so...unrealistic. I can't ever see it happening. I've tried reading fic for that pairing, but it always comes off as unrealistic. Izaya is always woobiefied to such an extreme degree that he isn't even the same character any more. :/

I also ship Mikado/Anri, and Kida/Mikado/Anri is my OT3 for the show. I'm also a big fan of Shinra/Celty, and Shinra/Celty/Shizuo is a really adorable threesome pairing too.

Izaya -- for all his "love" for humans -- should really just end up alone.

Oh, you ship the same things I do *_* I do like some Shizuo/Celty. They have a cute dynamic <3 But I still prefer Shinra/Celty, tbh XD

Also, I DO ship Shizuo/Izaya, but I don't like it when Izaya is woobiefied :/ I'd rather have him as the weird motherfucker that he is.

I'm actually surprised no one ships them. Mikado is such a bamf that he could give Izaya a run for his money. On the other hand, Izaya/Kida is more popular because...he made Kida's life a living hell? XD

God, I've seen so much angsty doujinshi with those two.

Even as a rather enthusiastic Shizaya shipper, I don't rag on people for shipping what they want! And really, I don't just ship those two... I'm sorry you had to deal with the batshit insane part of the fandom, OP. A lot of us don't bite, promise!

Yep, sane shipper here as well XD No Izaya woobiefication and a lot of love for other pairings (ShinraxCelty, ShizuoxCelty, etc.)

This. I loved the series, but just. There's nothing there for me in the fandom. Shinra/Celty is my favorite ship, I think they're fucking adorable. But. Nope. I adore Walker/Erika, too. And any combination of Kida/Mikado/Anri. And Shizuo/Celty. And Izaya/Namie. Hell, I ship Celty/Anri. But no matter how many ships you have, no matter how logical or illogical based on the canon they are, if you don't ship Shizaya, there is no reason to be in this fandom. That makes me sad.

There's been some half-decent fic on AO3 that's not all Shizaya.

I keep hoping people who ship other things or care about other characters will contribute more too :(

Right there with ya, but I can't help but think it's a partially self-fulfilling prophecy. I wrote Masaomi/Mikado but gave up on it because nobody seemed to care. So, you know, there's that.

The fact that 95% of the fandom's output is Shizaya was a let down to me. It actually put me off trying out the series for a long while because I KNEW I wouldn't ship it (as a general rule I dislike rivalslash). I know, I know, to each their own, but it is kind of frustrating especially with such a HUGE cast.

I only ship het in this fandom actually. Shinra/Celty has a bit of fandom presence, which is nice, but Mikado/Anri? Hahah. No.

man i haven't properly been in this fandom since the episodes were actually airing but even back then shizuo/izaya seemed to be monolithic. i've been meaning to write a kida/mikado longfic for ages--maybe i'll look back into that sometime soon. <333

MY BFF is a BIG Shizaya fangirl. (She talked a great deal about their "relationship" before I got into the series) When I actually say down to watch, I sort want to stab Izaya or throw him offave no business being T a building. (I stopped after a few epidsodes cuz damn...Offa roof)

Am I the only one that wants to give Shizuo a hug? Seriously, the guy needs it.

Still, my main problem is that Shizaya is EVERYWHERE. I mean, if you like it more power to you, but it makes me want to tear my hair out that nearly half the fics and doujin are them. (I NEED Mikado/Anri, Mikado/Kida, Anri/Mikado/Kida....or ANYONE/Mikado...*cough* Or Shinra/Celty. Seriously, there relationship is made of adorable)

Also, the fans, occasionally including my BFF, can be downright scary...

the funny thing is that i was aware that shizaya was HUGE going into this series and was expecting to ship it but was surprised/disappointed to find that they didn't really do anything for me. (that said, i enjoyed their relationship for what it was, ie. the glorious mutual hate-on.)

i came out of the series furiously otp-ing kida/mikado because ugh what a pair of tragic, secretive baby badasses ;___; and yeah, they could def use more love, right along with shinra/celty and walker/erika and anyone/anri and oldschool raira fic. i would honestly even read all the gen in this fandom because they are all such. great. characters. so yes, the underappreciation is pretty sad.

I was very active in the fandom when the show was just out, to the point I was ok with spending quite a lot of time as one of the first people who did the daily updates for the kink meme. It was quite okay back then, the fics still had some variety and everyone was pretty civil and accepting of each others' ships. I lost interest after some time and dropped out. Then I came back half a year later and was very surprised how incredibly shitty it had gotten. The ship wars were insane. On one hand it was sad to see, on the other hand I was so glad I got out that early.

I still suspect that a lot of the anime-generation Hetalia fans got into Durarara!! and with their arrival, the fandom went to hell.

It was a little strange entering the fandom for Durarara!!, only because I had never been in one (a fandom) that was soooo one-sided with its pairings. I wish the rest of the cast had some exposure. Lol, I'd really like some Dotachin/Erika fics...but I'm probably the only one.

I love Walker and Erika as a pair, but I can't say that I ship them in a romantic relationship. I sincerely hope that they're BFF though. Lol, I just want more Walker...in everything.

All of that being said...I honestly don't mind the Shizuo/Izaya pairing. I just wish there was more for the other characters.

Also, I'd write something...but I know that I wouldn't be able to keep the characters in-character.
