On a similar note, besides the fact that I don't get Sterek. I want to know why do so many fans and mostly fangirls, some but not all, always ignore the gay characters and go for the obvious straight character for their slash ships?

Like Danny, as you have said, OP, is out and proud but he is almost never shipped with any of the other male cast members. But Stiles who is head over heels in love with a Lydia is always shipped with Derek. Why? Why go for the straight characters? Is it a challenge thing?

I don't know. I find it odd.

I don't know about "almost never" - I see quite a bit of Danny/Jackson out there (which as a former SG-1 fan I find amusing but that's beside the point). But I think it's more about shipping the main characters. Danny is a minor recurring character canonically. In fandoms where you do have main characters that are not straight (Torchwood, Glee), Kurt and Jack are hardly ignored.

Yeah I agree that this is a function of minor vs. main characters, and the fact that canonically gay characters are so rarely main characters.

There's actually a lot of hints that Stiles isn't straight though, and Jeff Davis even admitted that he's playing with the idea that Stiles could be bisexual by putting those hints in there on purpose. Still, more Stiles/Danny would be pretty awesome, even though Sterek is my OTP.

Scott makes just as many sexual innuendos, if not more, does that mean he is bi too?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-24 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Scott also doesn't know what words mean, so.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-24 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
HA!

(Oh, Scott. I love you.)

(Anonymous) 2012-09-24 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the idea of Scott. Actual Scott (actual Tyler, probably, bless his heart for trying) is a little too shouty.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-24 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot too shouty really, and he's definitely not my favorite, but I still love him. What can I say?

+1. Oh, Scott.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-24 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Until Scott yells, "Am I attractive to gay men??" down a school hallway, no.

/doesn't ship Sterek and wishes for Danny/Stiles

But Scott was proud that he got the free drink at the gay bar and not Stiles.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-25 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but that was far more about rubbing it in Stiles' face that he was getting the attention than that he was happy to be getting the attention.

Scott makes sexual innuendo towards girls, and a few towards Danny that he doesn't mean (though it's awesome that he doesn't care that he comes off as bi). Stiles worries that gay guys (particularly Danny) don't find him attractive, asks Scott to make out with him, gets annoyed that his dad thinks he couldn't be gay, is annoyed that the dudes in the gay club don't hit on him...there is a decent amount of evidence that Stiles is actually bi. Davis has said he put that stuff in there on purpose as he's toying with the idea that Stiles could be bi, seemingly even before all of this Sterek stuff. Scott, on the other hand, canonically says he's into girls only, and while there is possibility that he could change his mind later, at the moment there is nothing that shows that him being bisexual is highly likely.

what about the extreme eye-fucking and brosexuality between him and Isaac

because

you know

I'd be totally OK with that

This is awful, but I have almost the same problem ficcing fictional gay characters into relationships as I do women and out gay men in RPF, like they have to put up with enough institutionalized bullshit already, they don't need me smutting (or hand-holding, ymmv) up their imaginary lives.

So, basically in this case, "Danny should get to pick his own boyfriend!" which doesn't make sense on so many levels.

But, I would read 10,000 words (or write, in theory) of Danny's awesome computer-hacking-and-or-werewolf-adventures with the love interest of his choice. Who is actually the love interest of Jeff Davis's choice for him.

Oi. I would read this hacker wolf adventure deal. I would theoretically write 5000 words of that if the other half was secured.

You can never have enough Danny fic imo

(Anonymous) 2012-09-24 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Because usually those gay characters are just token minorities with little development. I haven't seen Teen Wolf so I don't know if it is true for this show too, but more often than not they are OMG GAY CHARACTER who happens to be something vaguely plot relevant maybe rather than OMG PLOT RELEVANT CHARACTERS who happens to be gay.

I don't watch Teen Wolf, but shipping seemingly straight characters in slash pairings is so popular because a) there are very few characters in any given canon who are clearly stated to be attracted to their own sex, and, more importantly, b) the way characters who are stated to be attracted to their own sex are written is often stereotyped and weirdly desexualised (is that a word?).

Plus, the most important characters, the ones with the most characterisation and interesting dynamics, are almost always assumed to be written to be perceived as straight. It's much more fun to slash those characters. Well, at least for those of us who venture into fandom out of love for the canon and canon characterisation and wish to build on that.

Danny actually doesn't feel like a stereotype to me. I think it's pretty well written and very likable. It's like when Stiles asks if he finds him attractive Danny gives him this look like "are you kidding me? please don't use me as your token gay friend to sooth your ego."
Danny isn't desexualized either. He's definitely been checking other guys out. He's had boyfriends and exs. (and is a total hottie himself)

The problem is there's just not a lot of him. He's a minor character.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-25 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
in my case, it's because we haven't seen enough of him. It took a season and a half for me to get interested in Sterek. Danny is losing out because he's a) a minor character and b) we share a nickname so it's weird to read/write
