Let me introduce myself as a lesbian who's really pissed that there isn't more representation of GLBT people in media.

Let me then say that for Christ's sake, having a same-sex relationship between two characters is FUCKING MAJOR FOR US, I don't care who they are! I don't watch this show so I'm not invested in any of the ships, but if Sterek becomes canon, WOO. It's one step closer to acceptance. I'm also of the opinion that making Kirk/Spock canon in Star Trek would be awesome, because they're iconic characters that so many people love and Roddenberry basically confirmed that they were meant to be more than just friends. Giving the world two badass sci-fi heroes and then saying "hey look you can be gay without being camp AND you can save the universe!" would be FUCKING FABULOUS. (Personally I'd rather see Rand & Chapel but there you go.)

Anyway, if you're bitching that they're only in it for the pretty guys, how do we know you're not only in it because you like this Danny guy and want to see him with some other dude?

IDK man, any good representation of GLBT people is a good thing IMO.

I'm curious: what have you thought about the few gay characters that have been presented on TV (other shows besides L word, or Queer as Folk), like on Modern Family, Six Feet Under etc. Do you have any particular favorite presentation of a gay character or one you loathed?

nayrt but also same situation. But I can not STAND the Modern Family gay couple. They re so camp and stereotyped it's almost a mockery.

Not the person you asked, but L and Queer as folk were mostly stereotype upon stereotype and it's horrible that the US version of QaF handled a lot of things better than RTD's. Modern Family doesn't let them have causally affection but OMG WE CAN'T LET THEM KISS ON TV. I don't watch Six Feet Under. I washed my handed of Glee when they decided to treat bisexuals are nonexistent or people that just needed to 'fully come out' (also the whole forcing someone out of the closet is a good thing! was disgusting).

Most shows with GLBTQ characters are hyper focused on that those character ARE GLBTQ. One of the reason people want things like Dean/Cas or Sterek is because it would give us queer characters that weren't written to just be their sexuality (which is how most writers in TV writer GLBTQ characters right now).

+1 TO THIS.

ffs are you kidding? Yes, having decent representations of queer characters on screen is a good thing, but would you rather have GOOD representations of queer characters or would you have queerbaiting?

Good representation - out, proud Danny. Accepted for who he is and no drama about being gay. Is played straight and not as a joke.

Bad representation - Stiles being "bi", but mostly in a joking manner. All of his clues about being gay are played funny like most representation of gay characters.

Worse - Sterek queerbaiting.

Frankly, I'd love a campaign to get more characters like Danny on the show. Or hey, have Danny as a lead character.
