Actually, I'd say that pairing two important male characters who haven't been introduced as Designated Gay Character is rather more progressive! I mean, has it ever happened?

Damn, I'm starting to care about what happens in Teen Wolf without even having seen a single episode, heh.

Gonna agree with you there. Danny, IIRC, has pretty much no character development other than 'Gay guy who plays lacrosse and hacks computers.' Two main characters being bi would be much more interesting.

yeah, that's how i feel about it too, because the fandom might be going a bit nuts, but yes, yes it actually would be kind of a big deal.

plus i am so curious as to how having something happen (by that i mean stiles being bi, danny/stiles, sterek, whatever) how the media would take it, never mind the fans. plus there's always the worry that they'd fuck it up completely, look at jason/jessica from true blood :/

Eh, maybe. But at this point it is all fandom speculation. And really, the fact that fandom are ignoring the PoC gay characters (Danny; Deaton) in favour of shipping their favourites (white males) it seems a tad iffy to me.

Yeah, I mean, I don't even know these characters, so for me it's even more random speculation, haha. But it's always easier for TPTB to make a minor character on the outskirts of the real story the token gay person than to actually be a little brave and go for the main cast. And fans tends to car most about the main cast, and the relationships and dynamics that are happening on screen (i.e. liking to ship characters where there's a little tension involved).

Not that there can't be problematic reasons as well, but I think the importance of the character in canon combined with them having an interesting dynamic with another important character is usually the main reason for their popularity. (Also, character types, but that's a whole essay, so I won't go into that.)

Isn't it sad that any hope for a main male character to develop feelings for and relationship with another important male character (in U.S. genre media) is still considered preposterous in this day and age?
