I admit that I am confused to. I know traditional "girly" things like makeup and jewelry hold appeal for many females, but not for me. I know that people wish to express themselves in a multitude of ways and that they should not be judged for that. But what if I am a woman who doesn't have that traditional girly side. I hope I am not adding fuel to the fire and maybe I am reading the secret wrong, but what's wrong with being a tomboy? Does everyone has to express their femininity through jewelry and make up? Especially if you don't have a problem with people that do?

OP, if you are happy the way you are now, that's great. I'm just leery of taking some over marketed version of the young woman ideal so seriously.

I think it's more that the OP liked those things all along but was afraid to admit as much because 'traditionally girly' things are considered inferior and she didn't want to be seen as shallow (a common stereotype of girls and women who dress a certain way or like certain things). It's not that there's anything wrong with being a tomboy, but there is something unhealthy about denying yourself something you like (dolls, make-up, the colour pink...) because people may assume you're a vacuous girly girl.

This helps a bit. Thanks. My mom thinks I am uninterested because I don't like wearing makeup. I guess I am just more experienced with the other side of the stereotype spectrum.
