Eastern European Jewish. I don't even know what box to check on those race questionnaires. My skin is lily-white, but I have a few millenia of oppression at my back, and if I live in the wrong part of the country/world, I'd have to seriously worry about my ethnicity getting me harassed or even killed.

Ditto all of this. I'm very careful to avoid talking about my ethnicity and religious background, since where I live there is a big chance I could get killed for it.

Also Eastern European Jewish, but where I grew up it didn't matter at all, so I saw myself as 100% white growing up. Now I've lived abroad in a few places and it's more like... 95% white, because some shitty, sketchy stuff has happened to me.

As a white eastern european I say this. When I say where I'm from I'm often mistrusted and verbally attacked. Once I got a fruit thrown at me, because I'm apparently stealing jobs from people in the west.

Oh man, a few members of my family sell used goods, so every month they go to Germany to collect the used stuff. The number of times the Germans (both everyday people and the police) fucked with them, oh my, like my family wants to steal their pretty German kids or something.

Er... I don't think race works this way.

I'm Slavic and my people were enslaved in the past and still get treated awfully in Western Europe. I was myself discriminated against a couple of times. On the other hand, we oppressed Jews and we're prone to casual racism. So what does this make me? I'm non-white when I'm in the West and when I cross the border I'm suddenly white again?

I think we should differenciate between oppression due to ethnicity (mostly based on cultural/religious/linguistic differences) and oppression due to race (mostly based on physical differences).

Yup, this. I'd still refer to myself as white because I have the complexion of snow, but the majority of my country is anglo-celtic-saxon white, so that sometimes needs qualifiers.
