This is the same band that wrote a series of songs called 'The Murder Trilogy' about a guy who got jealous when his ex started dating another guy, so he strangled her and threw her body in the water. The last song chronologically has the line 'she kicked and screamed while I held her throat' when they perform it live.

You may be reading too much into it.

I'm pointing out that they're obviously not being serious--they're just telling stories, often violent ones, because that's what they do. Their band name is The Killers, and they seem to want to make it mean something. Sometimes it's dark humour.

They actually seem to be pretty good guys, on the whole.

That the lyrics of the songs are more like short stories from the perspectives of bad characters. They aren't the only example either, there are very famous songs about murder and stalking and even rape, but it's a narrative choice. Instead of outright condemning the characters' actions they leave the judgement to the listener/reader. I mean, if the lyrics make people uncomfortable, they don't have to like the song, but there's a difference between these types of songs and actual problematic ones.

...."problematic"? How is that problematic? It would only be "problematic" if they thought that doing those things was a good thing. It's actually possible to tell a story about a bad guy from a bad guy's POV and totally intend for him to be seen as a bad guy, you know.
