I was thinking of the Moonlighting curse , but maybe I'm old. It's like they forgot about that, getting them together kills the show. The X Files almost carried it off, they did it in an interesting way I thought.

It's a juggling thing I reckon because as a viewer I don't want to see the couple get with anyone else, I hate that, but I like a bit of UST.

I think it works best when the characters are in a relationship outside from the start. Or if it's two members of a bigger team getting together. Such as in Star Trek, or in Torchwood. That works well if you like both characters.
