It's fun to ramble!

Yeah, I always got that feeling too. ): Like the first arc was really about good vs evil and who was which and what would win and then the second arc everybody had like... all these RANDOM ulterior motives for catching Kira other than "it's the right thing to do/justice will prevail" (like L was) and all the morality-debate of the series (which was what had kept me interested) got completely lost.

I mean Mello was a fascinating character and stuff? But he's just a character, not what I was reading DN for to begin with.

2. This upsets me MAINLY because HALF of these "L worshipers" seem to ignore the entire plot of the story and every other character simply because they think L is the shit, and it was "unfair" for him to die. I like L a lot, but WHERE THE LOVE FOR LIGHT. ): I will admit things get slow for a whille, but they pick right back up again and THE PLOT THICKENS.

17. I don't see that as shallow. It was a common interest and the way you wrote your secret, it sounds like you were close because of fandom. It's really no different than saying, "I really miss the fishing trips we went on together when my mother was alive," except geekier. Screw the people who say you have "better things" to remember her for, because these memories are important to you and that's all that should count.

Yeah, I totally agree. I mean, with Mello, it was for avenging L's death. And then with Near, it's just for winning's sake. The second arc completely loses all the morality stuff, and it just gets filled up with "oh yes he did this and now I predict he'll do that", but I still enjoyed it. Probably because I was in love with the characters and the morality debate came second.

Or maybe I'm just biased! But hey, Death Note is good overall. ): One of my favorites. Despite it mindfucking with my head the whole time I was reading it auuugh -dies-

2. Yeah, I know. I mean, while I was reading the first arc, I was all like "What's the big deal with L?" but after he died, I did stop reading for like a little bit just because even though I knew it was going to happen (even BEFORE I started reading it), it was just such a shock for me that I just couldn't get into the rest of it that day. I have finished book 7 since then, but I haven't made it to book 8 yet.. (I'm SO behind on the DN fandom D:)

I'm not wild about it either, but I'm not sure if 'rip-off' is the right term. It's very openly and purposefully based on La Boheme, which is different then 'rip-off'.
