I can't answer for others, but personally:
Lydia: great character during season 1, but second season was mostly about her mutually abusive relationship with Jackson and how this was somehow true love that conquers all, which I found rather iffy.

Scott: too much Allison, Allison, Allison, so that is the first thing that always comes to my mind.

Danny: all right I guess, but hasn't been in all that many episodes, and I don't remember much chemistry with anyone else other Jackson.

i'm only at episode 8 of the second season, but i don't see how lydia's storyline is about jackson and their relationship?

*winces* You'll see.

SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2 OF TEEN WOLF

I still don't see how Lydia's story line is about Jackson. JACKSON'S story line is largely about Lydia, but hers is mostly about her mind meld thing with Peter, her isolation from everyone else and her brainy awesomeness.

Totally. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't a fan of her storyline (I wanted less isolation and more brainy awesomeness), but it was not about Jackson. The resolution of Jackson's storyline was about Lydia. There's a difference.

(And said resolution wasn't the only disappointing and stupid thing about the season finale, so Lydia/Jackson weren't alone in that regard.)

Agreeing so hard. I don't even understand how the mountain ash HAPPENED. Seriously, WHEN COULD THAT HAVE HAPPENED?

When? HOW?! Like I'm supposed to believe Scott could even figure out something was up with Granddad Argent, let alone how to stop him?! Scott, I kind of love you, you big dumb puppy, but...no.

I give the veterinarian all the credit for anything that requires thinking.

But...but that still requires Scott to have brought him the information in the first place! (And I refuse to give Deaton credit for anything. I find his character boring at best and awful at worst.)

And it still doesn't excuse the lazy-ass writing.

OK, I'm just really bitter about the finale.

Oh thank you for saying that - I thought I was the only one who had issues with Deaton. :(

You are not alone! They're trying waaaaay too hard to make him mysterious, and if that's supposed to be him keeping an eye on Derek, I hope he didn't make any promises to anyone else's mothers, because that is one shitty job he's doing.

No kidding. Deaton only really seems to be interested in what happens to Scott. And that made sense up until we learned that he was friends with the Hales. Now....it doesn't make sense at all.

Not to mention how would anyone think of planning for Gerard to maybe drop his pill box.

good god I hate so much about the finale.

Yes, the finale was a total disappointment on so many levels. :(

Completely agreed, her storyline was not about Jackson.

That's part of my problem with Lydia's storyline. Peter messed with her for the whole season, but she didn't even get to say him "Hey, not cool" after being a weeping victim for so many episodes. Instead, she got ultimately pushed into the role of forgiving girlfriend in the finale, even if Jackson had given very little reason for her to do this.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-27 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, cop-out. All of those reasons are good reasons to write GOOD fanfic about these awesome characters, rather than ignore them in favour of something else (Sterek).

(Anonymous) 2012-09-27 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
That's ridiculous, and just frankly sounds like "wah, people don't like what I like." People like to write about the characters they like. Just because you think Scott's awesome (and let's be honest, this is mostly about Scott because fandom adores Lydia and Danny) doesn't mean everyone else is required to.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-27 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
It kind of ticks me off how the same people who complain that Scott is all about Allison and that's horrible describe Stiles as exactly the same way with Derek. Which is absolutely fine for both of them since THEY ARE FUCKING TEENAGERS IN LOVE.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-27 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't know about the first part. But quite frankly even when I was a teenager myself, which has been *cough* quite some time ago, I had no patience for silly self-absorbed "teenagers in love," and I've developed no patience for it since then. It's not that Scott being in love with Allison is the problem - it's the way (at least in S1) that his Allison obsession makes him mostly incapable of seeing anyone's else's perspective. Oh, Derek, you've been chained to a wall and tortured. But enough about you, I'm going to make this all about my Allison issues.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-27 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't know what fanfic you're reading. I rarely if ever see Stiles portrayed that way. In fact, authors seem to adore portraying his other relationships (with his dad, Scott, Lydia, Peter, etc.) and his other roles in the group (researching, human among a bunch of werewolves). The joy of having a character who in canon actually is developed beyond his luuurve is that fanfic writers have more to work with - and actually want to work with it.
