I think 90 percent of the reason why there is so much Sterek out there is because a couple of die hard shippers got out and showed that the pairing works in a way that caught people's attentions and excitement. They gave a blueprint on how that ship worked and made it easier for other writers to follow. Momentum happened and built, until there was enough fanon and excitement that it became low hanging fruit. Anyone going into the fandom knows that if they write a Sterek fic that has all the fanon and beloved tropes of another sterek fic, they'll get heaps of attention and kudos.
You can do that with Danny and Lydia and Scott. You just have to be willing to write and put the effort in to prove that they can be great characters to work with. Make a challenge and get a bunch of writers to write for it. Make a community. Write yourself, lots. Don't just complain.
