Where? I have never seen this.

All I know is that I'm allowed to use the word in college without any problems from my English professors. I've also never seen the 'different connotations' thing either. So I wouldn't know about that.

Alright is more general (My grammar is alright, my grammar is generally good) while all right isn't. Even though they're defined as the same, the connotations differ.
