I am so sick of this.

You want more het, or more fic with female characters in general? GET OFF YOUR LAZY ASS AND WRITE IT YOUR OWN GODDAMN SELF. Stop bitching and moaning about how "fandom only writes about the doodz, boo hoo hoo" and do something about it if it bothers you that fucking much. Fan writers are not your goddamn dancing monkeys that write only what YOU want them to. For fuck's sake, let the fucking slashers write their slash in peace and stop shitting your pants about the fact that there are some people out there who don't want to write your personal preferences.

You lot are so disgustingly entitled. It makes me fucking sick, is what it is. If you don't like it, you have a couple of options- you can put up and shut up, dealing with it, you can write your own or post prompts on the kink memes or whatever, or you can GTFO. Frankly, it's not a hard choice.

holy shit calm the fuck down

(Anonymous) 2012-09-28 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know I'm angry. I've just seen this bullshit too many times. Excellent writers and all-around good eggs have been getting so much shit from a certain group of strident wannabe "feminist intellectuals" on tumblr for writing slash that I'm fed up with it. It's a slow-burning rage that's been simmering for a while now, and after seeing someone who I consider a friend get eviscerated over a oneshot fic that had no female characters in it, I have exactly zero tolerance for this bullshit right now.

Maybe there's a less angry way to say it. In fact, I know there's a less angry way to say it. But I'm angry and don't really care to be less angry. However, if it helps, here goes:

If you want to read more het fic, then write it yourself. If you're good at it you might inspire others to want to write it themselves.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-29 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
not everyone can write. and as a writer myself, i enjoy seeing other people's writing because hey, i don't know what to expect, i don't know the ending, and it's enjoyable to read other writing styles. saying "go write it yourself" is not going to be the magical cure-all to wanting to see more of ____.

honestly i know where you are coming from because people complaining about a lack of certain pairings/genres is huge in my fandom and it irks the fuck out of me. but seriously the OP wasn't saying they disliked anything, only that they wanted to see more of something. that anger could be put to use somewhere else.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-29 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Trust me, I'm pretty damn angry. There's plenty of anger to go around. :P

I do understand where you're coming from, and I do realize that not everyone can write themselves. But this particular issue has been on my mind a lot this week. I've seen people fly off the handle because a writer was preferring to write slash, and it's really been getting under my skin. I guess it was the "focus on more than just the dudes" that tripped the trigger- I know they're not demanding that people write what they want, but it kind of comes across that way.

And with that said, I'm going to go have a margarita to chill. I did kind of go from 0 to 10 in half a second, I suppose.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-28 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel you anon. Fanfic is a time consuming hobby and people shouldn't get looked down on and judged if the characters and relationships that motivate them happen to be male. It particularly annoys me when slash fans get called misogynist just for writing about men regardless of their treatment of the female characters.

AYRT

(Anonymous) 2012-09-28 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. It's a disturbing trend, one I've seen grow exponentially recently. I've seen writers get hounded out for preferring to write slash, or not including female characters in their slash porn.

And to be completely honest with you? It just makes me want to write more slash to piss them off. >:3

You want more het, or more fic with female characters in general? GET OFF YOUR LAZY ASS AND WRITE IT YOUR OWN GODDAMN SELF.

1. People do. 2. Not everyone can contribute to fandom that way.

Also, I think it's time to step back, anon. This isn't an either or situation and the OP specifically said they enjoyed the slash but wanted a little more variety. There is nothing wrong with wanting to see female characters in fic in a positive way. Especially after dealing with "EW VAGINA!" and internalized misogyny that runs wild in a lot of fandoms.

Saying "I'd like to see ______" doesn't mean you hate/despise/want to get rid of the other options. It just means "I'd like to see _______"

(Anonymous) 2012-09-29 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
There is nothing wrong with wanting to see female characters in fic in a positive way.

Uh, yeah, there kind of is when you start behaving like a spoilt child whose daddy didn't get them a pony when writers don't conform to their exact expectations of what they want them to write. I've seen it way too many times, and I've seen it get extremely vicious on the part of the ones who ostensibly just "want more female characters."

Yeah, I'm angry. Yes, I'm pissed off. Yeah, I know this isn't going to change anything. But dammit, I'm tired of people acting like fan writers are their personal Santa Claus.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-29 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, nobody in this thread or secret did act like that?

I get that you're angry from other areas of fandom but why take all your anger out on the OP who did a pretty good job of not being all "slash is evil do things my way!!!".

That goes both ways though. How is "OMG UR SLASH IS GETTING IN THE WAY OF MY FEMALE CHARACTERZ" any different than "EW GIRLS BREAKING UP MY SHIP!"? Entitlement happens on all sides of this. It is far from any groups exclusive domain. And I agree, no one should have to write anything they don't want to write for fun. But that doesn't mean that when there IS a distinct lack of one thing or another, and there IS a valid reason (please note I said VALID, not ew het or ew slash or ew vagina) to say something about it, it's not a bad thing.

Nobody is saying you have to have character X in your slash porn. Of course not. Most PWPs just have the characters involved in the act and that's that. But if character X is constantly painted as a raging bitch/slut/EVIL because she might get in the way of said ship... that's not cool.

All of this so freaking much. I wish the whole "then write it yourself!" attitude would just die.

I am one of the people lucky enough to have the confidence to write and post my own fic. I'm also the only one who writes for my OTP, and it really freaking sucks being alone. That doesn't mean I want other people in the fandom to stop writing their ships I just wish there was someone else writing mine.

THIS. Especially because if more people wrote it, more people would actually read it.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-29 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
Big thanks for the 'isn't an either or situation'. A bit of common sense is what this thread needs...particularly angry!Anon.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-29 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
You do realize that not everyone can write?

I also think you may want to take a break from your computer once in awhile because this level of anger can't be healthy.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-29 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a programmer, that's easier said than done.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-29 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Then stop going to fansites for awhile and focus on your programming. Because it doesn't sound like you're getting a lot of joy from what is supposed to be a fun hobby.

Note how the raging slasher gets sympathy. A raging "I am fed up with slash fangirls" gets "homophobe, DIAF".

(Anonymous) 2012-09-29 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. I have encountered both types in different threads and usually what i see more is people going all "teh menz" and "more strong female characters" than "poor slasher". You need a reality check.

Gez, Anon - you having a bad day? I think people like you are the problem with a lot of fandoms, not the Anon with a desire for a bit more diversity.

Not that I care about werewolf knotting fics but to me it's not the same. I can imagine stuff far better than I can write or draw it so putting it down on paper seems like an effort not worth taking when there doesn't seem to be a fandom for it.

Still even when I do I don't achieve the same effect that reading someone's work does. With the kinks sometimes it's just nice knowing there are people into the same thing you are.
