I must have missed the stuff about them "really being aracial" (I rarely Tumbl) so it just seemed odd, and like blatant tokenism. *shrug*

Also, I don't really think it's 'blatant tokenism' if people wanna draw a character as having slightly darker skin like they do or something? Or sometimes people just prefer the aesthetics of dark-skinned prospit kids vs. light skinned derse kids, you know?

Fair point, especially if it's about aesthetics. I do think though that "having a darker skin color" =/= being of a different race. I guess I can get a vibe of "this canon needs a black person so I'll make X character black so it will be all progressive and shit". But I don't really know where any given artist is coming from.

re: your last sentence: not sure what you mean? Are you talking about carapacians or human dream selves? Because I never heard of humans having a different skin color based on their dream self...

When I thought about the characters from HS, I did realize that all the humans were (or at least appeared to be) white (not sure how they were supposed to be aracial exactly) and thought it was too bad, but it seems there's not much that can be done about it now without making it worse, so I guess I prefer to just not get fixated on it.

nah I was just using 'derse kids' to refer to Dave/Rose/Dirk/Roxy and 'prospit kids' to refer to John/Jade/Jake/Jane.

Not that all of one genetics group HAS to have the same race either, but basically my point was that I'd seen some nice art where people did that to make it more interesting to look at.

I mean the art can definitely look cool...

It's odd though, I mean I always perceived the Derse kids as being really, really pale. *shrug* I never really thought about it with the Prospit kids, but now that I do, I think I've thought of Jake as being kind of tan (the whole "outdoorsman" thing?)...

Anon meant that there's a following of folks who figure that jade and john (the prospit kids) are dark skinned and Dave and Rose (Derse kids) are white.

It does make more sense that the light haired ones would be caucasion.

Either way, I do agree that since they grew up on sunny islands and spent so much time outdoors, Jade and Jake should be, at least, tanned as fuck.
