Hence why Bagheera is female in a few dubs.

That's awesome. I don't remember what his gender was in the Kipling stories. Though that probably doesn't matter since Walt told his crew specifically not to read them:D

Bagheera was a male in the books.

Ah, that explains a lot. Do you know why he didn't want them to read the stories?

He wanted them to make up an interesting story, not re-create Kipling's. (I assume he liked the concept but not the book)

Holy crap, Bagheera was definitely female in my German translation of the book. Mind blown.

Really? Weird!

"In some Disney comics drawn in Italy, Bagheera is depicted as a female non-anthropomorphic animal movie star, loosely based on her animated movie appearance. Originally all black, she has white body parts. She enjoys signing autographs to her fans and eating pistachio-flavored pet food, being vegetarian."

It looks like there were a lot of instances where Bagheera was female. I wonder why.

That's disappointing, because I really disliked the Disney movie, but the originals are still some of my favorite children's stories. I guess I hated that the darkness got cut out of the storyline from the Disney movie.

This. I utterly adore The Jungle Books.

Bagheera was definitely male. The weird bit is that in the books, Bagheera is the one who's all footloose and fancy-free, and Baloo is the responsible one in charge of teaching the cubs the law of the jungle.

Also, Kaa is a wise old snake that Mowgli frequently turns to when he's got stuff to ponder. And he uses Kaa for what, presumably, is the World's Comfiest Armchair.

Heee!
Oh, Kaa. I love him making 'figure eights' in the dust, hypnotizing the Bander-log.
*shivers*

So creepy and so wonderful.
