Hence why Bagheera is female in a few dubs.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That's awesome. I don't remember what his gender was in the Kipling stories. Though that probably doesn't matter since Walt told his crew specifically not to read them:D

Bagheera was a male in the books.

Ah, that explains a lot. Do you know why he didn't want them to read the stories?

That's disappointing, because I really disliked the Disney movie, but the originals are still some of my favorite children's stories. I guess I hated that the darkness got cut out of the storyline from the Disney movie.

Bagheera was definitely male. The weird bit is that in the books, Bagheera is the one who's all footloose and fancy-free, and Baloo is the responsible one in charge of teaching the cubs the law of the jungle.

Also, Kaa is a wise old snake that Mowgli frequently turns to when he's got stuff to ponder. And he uses Kaa for what, presumably, is the World's Comfiest Armchair.

You wouldn't marry a panther, would you?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I always thought of them as the first Disney gays too. :p
luxshine: (Goddam Batman)

To date, none has asked me for my hand

[personal profile] luxshine 2012-10-01 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Me three.

I mean, that right there, was Baloo telling Bagheera that yes, he would totally marry him if he asked.

And they danced together into the sunset.

The Sleeping Beauty came first.

Who, the kings? I can dig it.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I think she meant the three faries. Maleficent was angry about never being invited to their orgies, so she decided to give them a child so they'd never have any time for sex.

That's how that story went, right?

You mean the three faeries?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
When I was a kid, I was absolutely convinced that the reason nobody wanted Maleficent at the feast was because she was the Queen's ex. No idea where I got that from, but it seemed completely logical to me at the time.

Well, they didn't, really. They babysat him for a few days. But they do make an awesome couple or bromance, regardless.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to mention that. He was raised more by the wolves than by them.
brightblueink: The cast of the first season of Digimon. (Nostalgia)

Yeah, I think of it more as a bromance, myself. Although that could be my upbringing talking.

The two scientists in Lilo & Stitch, though...

They taught him a lot in the books - wasn't that part of the overall theme in the movie, or no? I can't remember anymore, it's been ages.

This makes it even more sweeter and funnier to me now. Funnier because of how they acted towards each other, but like a cute funny or something.

Pocahontas?

[personal profile] iceyred 2012-10-02 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Guys, guys, you're forgetting Pocahontas. John/Thomas all the way.

Re: Pocahontas?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-03 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
When I saw the headline I actually thought of Pocahontas and her gal pal first. That, or Wiggins/Ratcliffe. But yeah, I can see Thomas/John in a onesided sort of way.

(not to forget the wealth of Thomas/Kocoum slash over at disney_kink ;D!)
