(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)If I avoided every show/movie/book/etc... with a fucked up fandom, cripes - I wouldn't get to enjoy anything! And heck, some of the crazy of fandom has incited enough intrigue that I've checked out a show/movie/book/etc. simply because of it (Teen Wolf, I'm looking at you!)
It is entirely possible to enjoy something WITHOUT being involved in the 'worst' parts of fandom (or being involved in fandom at all, for that matter; but I assume from the OP's secret that they considering being a part of fandom essential to being a fan of something).
