But to talk about non-talking ones I always feel connected to them in a way that is different from talking ones. Because non-talking ones don't talk I have to make up their thoughts or their "voice" so they end up more like me. They are more an extension of myself, a really cool extension, but still an extension. This rarely happens with talking ones.
Ah, sorry I rambled. I just meant to say that I love both, I just love them differently.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 01:30 am (UTC)(link)Pretty much how I approach them.
I like the talkers as a character, like any other talking character in the game (well, assuming I enjoy their personality). I like the non-talkers, because they're kind of like an alter-ego of me, yet at the same time I usually see them as their own person, too, somehow.
So talkers, I feel more like I'm just there for the ride, or story, or whatever you want to call it, even as I control them, but the non-talkers, the adventure feels a little more personal, like it's actually me along with The Hero(ine), taking on this quest to save stuff.

I'm so happy someone else feels the same. When I tried to explain this to another person they asked me about games like Mass Effect where you create your own main character. I had to tell them that even then I create a character —One I like, don't get me wrong— but it's not the closer connection of "me but not me" I get with silent protagonists.
