Like other people on this thread you'd have to pry "American" from my cold dead hands. People all over the world have different names for themselves and for other countries in their native tongues. Just because someone in their native tongue wants to call me a "United Statesian" doesn't mean that me calling myself an American in English is wrong. We've been Americans for almost 250 years. Our name is our name, there's no use being indignant about it. If I meet you and you're from Central America or whatever and you wish to be called American I won't deny it of you or anything, but I would like to keep my name please.
