I resent it because Vulcan got destroyed so easily. It's like someone writing a WWII novel and deciding to do away with America, yet the Allies still win. WTF????

Consistency, where art thou?

OMG, this so much.

ALSO, I'm pretty sure that Vulcan, as a race that has been spacefaring for a long time, is supposed to have quite a few ships and more than a few colonies, making the 'few single survivors' thing a bit of a crock. Grrrrr

Yeah, that got me too. For a Sci Fi movie it didn't follow some basic Sci Fi logic.

Well, 8,000 isn't TOO low.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-04 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
It kind of is.

Well they DID have to make it seem both horrifically, genocidally tragic AND believable.

idk, 8,000 is a good number for that, I say.

I just really like the new movie

...You do realize that where art thou actually means 'why', right?
wauwy: (:|)

[personal profile] wauwy 2012-10-04 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
... You do realize that's "whereFORE," right? And that "art thou" just means "are you."

(Anonymous) 2012-10-04 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
LOL nice try, idiot.

Not only does that actually mean "where are you," but "wherefore art thou" wouldn't simply mean "why;" it would mean "why are you."

This is why I can never wrap my head around the RIGHTEOUS FURY of so-called "canon purists" getting pissed over ST 2009's relationships. Like... DID YOU NOT NOTICE VULCAN GOT WIPED OFF THE FACE OF THE UNIVERSE, OR...??

As a TNG fan, I was seriously, seriously traumatized in the theater when I witnessed that. I mean, in an ultimately good way, since trauma was what they were going for, but my face was seriously ;A; And in point of fact, the same was true for the rest of my old-school Trekkie friends I talked to afterwards. That was the thing that hurt them the most.

It wasn't until a few months had passed and I was far into the deeps of the internet that "canon purists" started becrying the AU characterizations and 'ships as the ultimate unforgivable transgression of that movie.

And to be fair America only really won the Japanese front of WWII.

Russia more or less had Germany licked after the corpse-piled horror that was Stalingrad. And the Italians were always a joke.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-04 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
We'd still have won, there'd just have been more of a war of attrition. On the other hand, probably wouldn't have wiped out Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Who knows which option would have led to more deaths?

The Allies in Europe would have won, thanks to Russia. But China/Southeast Asia? Not a hope in hell.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-04 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, came to the thread to say exactly this. Pisses me off when people forget the role of Russia in WWII, though that may be left over prejudice from the Cold War.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-04 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, the same, though because of both TOS and the 24th century. The thought that it may have replaced the original one makes me irrationally sad, so I try to think of it as an alternative, subordinate, not-quite-canon universe.

the allies would still win if the ussr is still around though
