We don't even need alternate timelines/realities/dimensions. Just accept that:

1: Canon is bullshit.

2: See rule #1.

3: If billions of people can have a sacred text with multiple creation and nativity stories, which in turn, have been adapted in dozens of variations by hundreds of authors, dramatists, and composers, fandom can consider Trek by Roddenbery, Nemoy, Berman, Frakes, and Abrams to be distinct bodies of work, worthy of being loved independently on their own merits.

1: Canon is bullshit.

Looool, it's sad that this is true. People ignore stuff all the time from canon because it either conflicts with itself, is extremely problematic by today's standards, or is just stupid.

As for the rest, yeah. I agree.

yeah, idk why a lot of people hold to ~canon like it's some sacred incorruptible thing. Even TNG-and-later shows have a lot of appalling elements by 2012 standards, so seriously, what's the big deal in tweaking it?

Although I'll always be here for the skants. Bless Roddenberry for those.
