I love Neil Gaiman's writing and have for a long time.

I have wanted to like Amanda Palmer's music ever since my friends got into The Dresden Dolls in high school, but I could never do it. I don't like her voice or her lyrics. To be completely honest, I don't really like her face either - which is not so petty when you consider that her image forms a significant portion of what she does.

I know that they're both adults and that they can make their own decisions, and I know it has nothing to do with me, but I was so, so disappointed when I heard that Neil Gaiman married Amanda Palmer.

Then again, I'm not sure that I'm entirely able to separate my feelings about them as a couple from my knee-jerk reaction to any man who leaves his family for a younger woman.

Well, as to that last bit, there were four or five years between the end of his marriage and his relationship with his mother. And I'm pretty sure all his kids lived with him until college, so he left his wife rather than his family. What the actual circumstances of that were I have no idea.

AP does a lot of photography shoots and videos, right? What's wrong with Anon not liking her because of facial features and expressions? It's one thing if an artist is all about her music, but AP seems to have a lot invested in her physical appearance. I think she's hot, but different strokes and all that. I can imagine how someone who didn't find her attractive might find it harder to get into her music.

I've never been much into her videos but listen to a lot of her music. It's possible to ignore aspects of an artist you don't care for or don't care about.

There's a huge difference between "not finding someone attractive or aesthetically pleasing for your tastes" and "disliking them as a person because of it." The former is fine, the latter is not.

He was divorced a loooooooooong time before he met Amanda Palmer, though. IIRC he and his wife broke up when his kids were fairly young (and from everything I've heard it was reasonably amicable) and his youngest is college-aged now.

May I ask you why were you that disappointed? I'm genuinely curious to understand why people got upset with it, first because it doesn't affects either of their works, second because they're clearly crazy about each other.

As for the family, do you mean his wife? Because I'm pretty sure he didn't abandoned his children (and, for the pictures he posts, they're all grown up and get along with their father), so why is that a problem? Besides, 36 to 51 is not that much of a difference, is not like he left babies for a 17 year old girl or anything.

So, what? Do you think he divorced his ex years before becoming involved with Palmer because he had some sort of premonition that he would meet her and fall in love or something? Because otherwise, that last bit makes absolutely no sense.

lolwut. He and his ex-wife divorced before he started dating Amanda Palmer, and they'd been (amicably) separated for years before they made it official. Also his kids are all grown and as far as I know have a perfectly fine relationship with him.
