Yeah... at some point you just have to step back and remind yourself that their marriage and life choices are not about you. They are the ultimate deciders of what works for them and makes them happy, and none of the rest of us deserve any say in that.

Wow, I really hope you're kidding. Okay, sure, it's Fandom Secrets and saying things you wouldn't tell other people is part of the whole thing. But this? This is just wrong. Neil Gaiman is an adult, a very intelligent one, and I'm pretty sure he can decide by himself if his wife is good for him or not, or if the frequency they meet is healthy or not. It's their relationship, not yours, and yes, you are being a tinhat fan.
One of the most annoying and slightly disturbing things is the world is when people want to give uncalled opinions on your relationship. So, please, don't do that, no matter what you think about Amanda Palmer or anyone else.

Idk, man, I find this really upsetting. Besides, he DOES talks about other things, and it's pretty normal for a person to support their partner's work and want to interact when distant.

Is there some minimum requirement of time spend together for marriage to have a "point"?

My fiance and I held on through three years in separate countries, seeing each other twice a year. It wasn't marriage yet but the point of a relationship where you hardly see each other? That there are other things going for it than sex, however great that may be, and you don't have to be there to be there for someone.

That said I'm not wild about her myself, but it's their business how they roll.

I love Neil Gaiman's writing and have for a long time.

I have wanted to like Amanda Palmer's music ever since my friends got into The Dresden Dolls in high school, but I could never do it. I don't like her voice or her lyrics. To be completely honest, I don't really like her face either - which is not so petty when you consider that her image forms a significant portion of what she does.

I know that they're both adults and that they can make their own decisions, and I know it has nothing to do with me, but I was so, so disappointed when I heard that Neil Gaiman married Amanda Palmer.

Then again, I'm not sure that I'm entirely able to separate my feelings about them as a couple from my knee-jerk reaction to any man who leaves his family for a younger woman.

Just because you're not secure with spending long times apart from your partner doesn't mean others aren't. I need a lot of space and my job requires me to be out of the country for months at a time, but it works for me and fiance. Not everyone needs to spend every second with their spouse.

As for the stuff between him and his wife, I can't help but feel mild exasperation at all the very public lovey-doveyness, but then I find it cute sometimes. He really does seem to love her very much.

First of all, who someone else marries is not up to you to decide. Even if you really like that someone. Even if you're a fan of that someone.

Second, the point of marriage is to cement a desire to be with someone for the rest of one's life and to obtain the legal rights and benefits associated with the civil institution. That does not necessarily entail seeing said someone on a regular basis.

Some others have told their stories to illustrate that it's possible to love someone from afar, and I will add to that. My husband and I spent a year being long-distance. We saw each a total of three times during that period. In some respects, we grew closer than we had been before, because our connection during that time revolved completely around the mental and the emotional. That year was, at times, very difficult, but I wouldn't change it. We grew so much because of it.

Love is about so much more than the physical.

I just don't like her because by all accounts she is a horrible person just trying to be ~edgy~. Like faking suicide to punish her boyfriend for having a drug relapse, and that whole EvelynEvelyn thing.

If I'm being honest, I just don't care much for her. I want to like her. Like, I'll read the lyrics to a song and think, yeah, that sounds cool, but then hear it, and no, just can't stand the way it sounds. I get a very forced wackiness/maniacal pixie vibe from her. So, I dunno, maybe it's just her persona I don't like.

But she makes him disgustingly happy, and that is adorable. Although there could be something said about miserable writers being more productive....

I love them both! I loved them individually, before they got together, and I love their relationship. Not that I expect that to change anyone's mind, you like who you like, and you're allowed to like only one half of a couple. Just like he's allowed to talk about his wife on the internet whenever he wants!
