(Anonymous) 2012-10-05 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)Second, the point of marriage is to cement a desire to be with someone for the rest of one's life and to obtain the legal rights and benefits associated with the civil institution. That does not necessarily entail seeing said someone on a regular basis.
Some others have told their stories to illustrate that it's possible to love someone from afar, and I will add to that. My husband and I spent a year being long-distance. We saw each a total of three times during that period. In some respects, we grew closer than we had been before, because our connection during that time revolved completely around the mental and the emotional. That year was, at times, very difficult, but I wouldn't change it. We grew so much because of it.
Love is about so much more than the physical.
