I just don't like her because by all accounts she is a horrible person just trying to be ~edgy~. Like faking suicide to punish her boyfriend for having a drug relapse, and that whole EvelynEvelyn thing.

I honestly heard a guy telling me that the million dollars were for the album, not the tour, and that AP did that 'getting local musicians to pay for free' thing constantly (I think she calls them guerrilla-concerts? Where the concerts are for free... after the concert where she charges an arm an a leg? And I'm not sure if the musicians are getting paid for either since my friend wasn't clear on that subject). And I was wondering... if this was a comic book or a short stories antology, no one would think that's acceptable.

Neither do any professional musicians I know, and between family and the people I went to school with (I was going to be one until I decided that would just end with me dead in a tiny garret somewhere assuming they still exist), I know a lot.

In fact, most of them have a knee-jerk FUCK YOU AND THE HORSE YOU RODE IN ON AND YOUR HORSE'S MOM reaction to being asked to work for free, in part because they get asked to work for free a lot, because people with air for brains or egos the size of Montana think that a) music isn't work or b) they and their project are Special.

AYRT On the upside, we got to have a discussion about how annoyingly pervasive the idea that artists should do work for free is and how anyone offering to pay you with "exposure" is full of shit and should probably be avoided.

IIRC she did finally agree to pay her musicians, but only after whining about how people on the internet were so meen to her about it.

Oh, I know a lot of musicians know it's not right. I was thinking more about the fans. This friend of mine? HE wants to be a musician. His family has a lot of professional musicians... and he still thought it was 'a great chance' and 'people shouldn't make her the bad guy for giving this other guys's exposure'. *facepalm*

Isn't that her modus operandi every time she does something stupid and/or offensive? to faux-apologize, sort of change her ways, and then say it's only because people are meen and don't understand her ART?

I can't stand her either, but I'm really glad I have by now learned to seperate an artist from his personal life by now (unless it's just too horrible and or offensive. And being married to a person I think is an ass is neither, so - whatever.)
