as someone who is more left-leaning than right, the vast majority of people i personally have talked to regarding the election who have been obnoxious about it are liberals. i can't really think of one republican/conservative who has so much as been offensive. my american presidency class is like 90% republicans and they're all very level-headed and neutral when it comes to evaluating the candidates; for instance, they give credit where it's due and respect the president despite planning on voting against him. in my national defense policy class there's a self-proclaimed republican who sits beside me and he's literally the most respectful debater i have ever seen in my entire life. what's more, the rest of the class consists of liberals and they never hesitate to be rude to him.

that being said there are definitely a lot of outspoken and obnoxious conservatives out there but in a college setting, at least for me, that's harder to come by. asshole liberals are plentiful though.

and while i love tumblr i am really sick of some of the people i follow and their political rudeness. honestly i find that people are more prone to be rude when they don't really know what they're talking about (what's the point in being rude if you can easily back up your thoughts?). whatever, i really shouldn't care since i'm a moderate independent, but this is the kind of behaviour that could - and probably sometimes does - deter less passionate/knowledgeable undecideds from your side.
