Yep. Another Asian anon here, I am so sick of this "acting white" bullshit.

As far as I can tell, there's no real difference in how people of different races act. Everybody gets up in the morning, goes to work/school, spends time doing things they enjoy, eats, sleeps, and hangs out with their friends. Sure, exactly what they do might vary depending on culture, but at the root of it, there's no real way to "act white" or "act Asian." :|

Another anon.

This is why I prefer western/eastern (as in hemispheres) to white or asian. That makes it about culture and not about race. There are asian people I know that are extremely "western" in thought and action, and white people I know who are very "eastern" in thought and action. What you are is race, how you act or approach things is culture.

Somebody being from a western culture doesn't make them white.

You can't win. If you wear your heritage proudly you're not acclimating to life in the west and are living in the past. If you act like everyone else around you, you're ashamed of your roots. If you're like most people and somewhere in the middle, it's never at the right place in the middle to suit whichever jackass feels like braying today.

I don't know much about this show, I just get really pissed when some obnoxious ass claims that an asian person is 'acting white'.

But yeah, doctor is one of the stereotypical Indian professions. Not as popular as convenience store clerk, mind you.

Now, I'll admit I'm white so I could very well be missing something here but...um. Honestly? I've known plenty of people who weren't white who acted like that, but were still very much whatever ethnicity they were a member of. It just seems to be a *western* culture thing, which...really, isn't the same thing.

As an Asian person, it's highly offensive to say we're 'acting white' when we don't act like a complete over-top stereotype. There is no such thing as acting 'black', 'white', or 'asian' unless you believe that racist stereotypes are real. There is only culture. And being part of Western culture doesn't change your race.

Next thing you know we'll be criticized for being too light-skinned or our eyes aren't the right shape. Oh wait, they already do that!

Um, you're kind of just complaining about who Mindy Kaling is. She's an American acting like a dumb American girl.

But I can see the white guy complaint, as that's also what her writing staff seems to be full of.

I could not get into the series because it just seemed to be a series full of Mindy being really into herself, which worked on the Office when I thought it was just her character, but now I feel like that's just her coming through.

It's just not a good comedy, she's not acting white though, she's being herself.

Honestly though, when mixed couples are on tv it's not because television wants to represent more mixed couples, it's because they want more white people in television. If an established character is already a person of color, then if they go the mixed route they will definitely make the second half of that couple white.

So while it's great that Mindy is the star and we're getting mixed romance options, why is everyone she surrounded by white?

As anon above said, there are mixed couples that don't involve a white person.
