IDGAF if the internet hates Avatar, that movie was FUN and remains enjoyable even after multiple viewings. Yes, we've all seen the Dances With Wolves/Pocahontas/Last Samurai storyline a hundred times before, but the Avatar is definitely my favorite rendition of the familiar tale. It's fun, it's fanciful, and if the internet wants to make it its job to hate me for liking it, well then, fuck you, internet!

You made it through the nine-foot tall aliens, the government hack plan, the "substituting the untrained twin makes total sense!" plot, and the spiritual tree, but that's where you draw the line? :/

I agree Avatar's not bad, just very standard, cliche and predictable. I think there's so much backlash because it was Cameron's dream project; he was working on the movie for over a decade... and THIS was the result?

I loved Avatar too. There was also a lot of dislike in the disability community over Jake Sully's attitude towards his disability but I emphasized a lot with how much difficulty he was having coming to terms over how his life had changed; I was diagnosed with my disability in 04 and still have similar feelings. (Although the "MAGICALLY CURED" thing, yeah...)

Buuut, that is why I like the How to be a fan of problematic things essay.

Cause, seriously, if we couldn't like anything anything that had problematic elements......

Even people who didn't like it say that at least it was beautiful. But I didn't think Avatar was beautiful, even. LOTR, that was beautiful. It had diversity. Everything on Pandora was blue and bio-luminescent. Looking at Pandora bored the shit out of me.
