What is your squick threshold?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-06 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
How easily are you squicked out by things on the internet? Are there certain things that easily freak out other people that just make you go "meh"? Have you been on the internet for so long that you've become jaded to the point that you can't even remember the last thing to squick you out?

Anytime fandom attempts to bring something from the animal world into romance/sexual situations squicks me - omegafic, knotting, wing!fic. All of it confuses me and makes me hit my back button like whoa.

Omg!i am not alone! You have no idea how happy that makes me, because it seems like everyone and their mother are all into the omega verse and so on...

Ugh. This trope is one of the worst to me. And there will always be someone I really respect in fandom being like 'NO you gotta read this. Its Omega, but totally good." So I do it. And I always end up hating myself halfway through the fic. I just don't get it.

And I know lots of people who aren't big fans! There are some of us!

Thiiiiis.

The omegaverse is just one big WTFNO for me.

That one, yeah.

Exception would be child porn, and I don't ever wanna be THAT jaded.

Cannibalism is pretty much the only squick I know I have. Almost everything else I can tolerate to some level.

Yes, this. And vore and scat

Re: What is your squick threshold?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-06 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
do you mean just in fandom or the internet in general?

It's very difficult to squick me out in fandom anymore. I guess I fall into the jaded category.

I do remember the last time I was disturbed though: I accidentally came across several fanarts of Damien Wayne (looking a few years younger than in canon) being gang raped a few months ago. I'm not sure why this was the ONE thing to get to me but my brain was like "NOPE" and I closed my internet for a while because I was so bothered.

....

I actually can't think of anything off the top of my head. I'm sure there are some things, but I can't think of anything right now.

Videos of people getting killed, lots of flowing blood, visible internal organs of people who are still alive, people infecting themselves with disease by eating raw roadkill or shit.

Pictures and art of adults having sex with children.

Guro, cannibalism and child porn are all very much dnw for me. Stockholm syndrome is something I can read but there have been instances where it upset me enough to drop fics. I'm sure there are other things but at the moment I can't think of them.

Depends on if it's real or not. Fictional art etc I can take pretty much anything. If it's real not so much.

I still get squicked pretty easily and backbutton whenver I run into hentai or whatever, but I've at least been on the internet long enough that these things don't surprise me.

Re: What is your squick threshold?

[personal profile] khronos_keeper 2012-10-06 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh. I dunno, I've lived life long enough not to be squicked out by a lot of what the interbutts can offer.

The squickiest things I've seen and done have been in real life. The internet is kind of pale in comparison.

Re: What is your squick threshold?

vomit-eating is pretty much it, I think. And you know what, there might be a time wherein I'm looking for something really really deviant and I might just end up there. Because there's a lot of stuff that used to squick me and now I'm like "eh, whatever".

Re: What is your squick threshold?

SA: this is in relation to fandom, though-- fanart, fanfic, etc. When we're talking real life, there is very little that DOESN'T squick me ._.

TWO GIRLS ONE GIANT HORSE DICK

[personal profile] tyger66 2012-10-06 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think my original reply showed up? so I will repost:

It's pretty hard to squick me, but the few that I have are the totally common ones: scat, vomit, etc. My only squick that is specific to fanfiction as opposed to all porn is mpreg. When it shows up in a fic unexpectedly, that is IT. Game over, story ruined. (not saying it's a bad thing to read/write, just something I personally can't handle)

I'm pretty meh on most things, a lot of stuff annoy me/makes me go why, but I'm pretty good at just ignoring it.

The only thing I can't stand is children (including drawn ones) in any kind of sexualized situations...

Wow. Now reading the other responses, mine seems so tame. And all the rest of them gives me the heebies also.

Oh internet. With great power comes great responsibility.

Re: What is your squick threshold?

[personal profile] greenvelvetcake 2012-10-07 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
It depends. Sometimes I think I've seen it all, and can read or look at something that makes others squirm without batting an eye, but other things people might consider tame just freak me out. I don't think I'll ever be at the point where I'm entirely desensitized, which is a good thing. When the world fails to horrify and delight, it must end.

I think the last thing to really squick me out was on the subreddit /r/popping. Mostly I find that sort of thing horrifically fascinating, but there was this one post... no. no. no.

I've found some grossly intriguing gifs on reddit, and some that were too grossly intriguing if you get my drift.

I imagine 4chan is worse.

Just when I think I'm jaded, some comic somewhere (manga, I'm looking at you) proves me utterly, utterly wrong.

Re: What is your squick threshold?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-07 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
The only squick I have is an embarrassment squick. I can watch the nastiest most horrifying crap ever and just go meh, but if I try to watch a TV show like Punk'd I end up blushing like crazy and changing the channel as quickly as possible.
