With dates, but not in chronological order because I was typing them in the order I thought ot them:

Saint Seiya (1986)
Yugioh (1996)
Digimon (1999)
Hikaru no Go (1998)
Power Rangers (1994)
Teen Wolf (2011)
One Piece (1997)
Bleach (2001)
Gundam Wing (1995)
Reborn! (2004)
Fullmetal Alchemist (2001)

Fruits Basket (1999)
Ronin Warriors (1988)

Or you could just simplify it a lot and say:

Ever since Shounen Jump started existing.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-06 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Thought about it. But I did attempt to diversify, too. Prince of Tennis and Naruto were simply the natural two to top the list because, uh, crazy-huge. And, yeah. 90% Shonen Jump despite trying to think of non-SJ things. ^^

There's also the fact that in Ancient Times man/boy was a thing.

Besides, 15/16. That's not 'minor' everywhere in the world.

Which is why I attempted to get some western fandoms in there as well. Japan is pretty lax with a lot of sexual depictions in its porn and erotica (age and depicted consent)*. Since I largely run in anime circles, it was hard.

TMI: 3.1% of childhood abuse cases are reported as sexual in nature in Japan. Which divided by the overall abuse cases physical, emotional and sexual (numbers from 2006) comes out of about 1320/year. However, Japanese culture is even less open about reporting abuse than the US - although it's getting better - so I don't know how accurate those numbers are to the real number of cases. And I'm just putting this here in case anyone wanders in to say how it promotes abuse. I can also point people to studies of Denmark and Japan that say pornography does not mean an increase in sexual deviance. Yay human sexuality class?

Well at least since Saint Seiya (1986?) and Captain Tsubasa (1981?). I'm not sure if any predate those...?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-06 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
The anime/manga that I can think of before that time either had very small casts or older characters (or both), and most of the western fanworks that I'm aware of from series created before that time were written much more recently. So even if it "wanted" to exist there wasn't a lot to work with.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-06 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
don't forget Kingdom Hearts!

(Anonymous) 2012-10-06 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Anything in the Final Fantasy family, really.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-06 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Prince of Tennis omg I'm pretty sure everyone in that fandom moved to kuroko's fandom as well

i don't know what I wanted to say with this comment except tenipuri <3

(Anonymous) 2012-10-06 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
A like-minded person! =D

Well, Kurobasu is basically just Tenipuri, just with character development.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-06 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Tenipuri is practically the epitome of this trend. Interestingly, it's the only one on anon's list that I know people who felt genuinely uncomfortable about writing (not that it stopped them). I know both American ficcers and Japanese doujinshika that felt a bit dirty.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-06 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Well Tenipuri characters are 2~3 years younger than KuroBasu characters (not that they look it!)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-06 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
According to a couple of people (I've never found verification) the characters were originally written to be in high school, but Shonen Jump requested they be switched to junior high to be closer in age with the publication's target audience.

Looking at pretty much every character but Echizen, I'd believe it.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-06 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
His older brother was supposed to be the main character, if I recall correctly. That'd make sense again.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-07 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Actually Kintarou was supposed to be the main character, but he was too "typical" and was changed to Echizen, who originally was going to be the main rival and goal of the main character.

And the original one-shot had Echizen getting along with adult pros and had a university setting.

Sadly, no, you aren't alone.
