I agree. I've been in more than my fair share of fandoms and none of them have been exactly overrun by delusionals who were convinced that noncanon pairs were actually canon. You're always going to get a few who just are Not Watching the Same Show, but they tend to be few and far between. I'm sure there are some fandoms where fans like those are more prevalent than has been the case in my various fandoms, buuuut, I have gotten my sticky fingerprints all over a lot of fandoms over the years, so I'd be surprised if it were true of the majority of fandoms and I just happened to get lucky EVERY TIME I poked my nose into a new one.

Those fans do make a lot of noise, though, and that's a fact. Even when I ship the same pairing, they make me sink down in my seat a bit and pull my baseball cap down over my face, so to speak.

If they're just in their own journal or likeminded friends' journals and comms and tumblrs, squeeing about how that hug means it's totally canon omg!, though, live and let live. Glad they're having fun.

Oh, yes, no question we made a lot of noise. We tended to keep it within our community, though, so it wasn't terrible for anyone else. I do think that's where the line gets blurry, though; the fact that fans like that are so vocal that they SOUND delusional if you're not aware that they're not.
