I have actually heard ppl say that Gaia is going to kill off all the men in disgust and then we're all gonna reproduce by parthenogenesis. Science! nvm we'd be all clones, Gaia would find a way...

There's a clan of chimps in Africa where all the (normally super-aggressive) males died due to human causes, and the females, normally subservient, started teaching new young male arrivals about co-operation and mutual grooming and so forth. I shit you not, decades years later the clan is still totally different from other chimp clans. The scientist who studied it has gotten very little attention, a bit like the bonobos were ignored for ages. Heard it on RadioLab maybe?

Student rad-fems were a pretty colourful lot. Though I gather this was a 1970s theory. I read an awful essentialist early 80s sci-fi novel where this happened.
