This is a secret that can apply to pretty much every fandom.

All of my ships have been non-canon ships, and I can accept that. It is what it is. But sadly then there's the batshit fans screaming "IT'S SO CANON!" when it's not and they actually believe in their hearts that it is. But then it ruins other people's fun because they're running around, bashing ships and shoving it down other people's throats when in reality, it's not canon.

So basically, I 100% agree with you, OP.
