I loved Jack and Real!Jack. I kinda thought their story was sweeter and sadder than Janto.

Seriously? I have to fast forward through that bit, it makes me cringe so much. I just can't suspend my disbelief enough to believe there wasn't comeback on other Jack for snogging another guy in the middle of a dancefloor. Completely threw me out of the episode.

I had a weird dread that scene resulted in Original!Jack's death the next day.

The aftermath of that episode was like 20 fics about that being the reason Real!Jack died.

Ha, probably should have realized fandom would have been all over that.

I found that ep so unbearably cheesy and histrionic. On top of that, it actually made me dislike Jack for quite some time that he would just forget/not care about anyone (e.g. Tosh) and anything (e.g. threats to his team, the world, the safety of real!Jack, etc.) else.

To each their own, I guess.

I agree with you totally, and he had also forgotten Ianto it seemed. Even if they aren't serious at that point, and you can argue that they aren't any sort of couple until series 2, there could still have been some kind of acknowledgement of him, poor old Ianto's getting the shit kicked out of him back in the hub and being all loyal to Jack, bless him.

What ruined Janto for me was people insistently treating it like an OTP instead of what it was: an office romance between a dude who was primarily straight but had been thrown so far past his comfort zone that he was practically the embodyment of stockholm syndrome, and a much, much older man who is fundamentally incapable of maintaining a relationship and who will enthusiastically jump into bed with anyone remotely willing, regardless of the circumstances.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-08 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
He didn't jump into bed with Gwen and she was more than remotely willing during the first 1.5 years.

I think it's more she didn't jump into bed with him. And she wasn't quite that willing. She started her fling with Owen Cooper practically episode 2. By the time that had run it's course, she'd realized she really didn't want to lose Rhys. From then on, she's been faithful.

However Jack did eyesex Gwen the fuck up pretty much through the entire show. Along with pretty much everyone else, including that poor guy he helped commit suicide.

See, with the Gwen thing (besides RTD somehow being bent on making this the UST from hell) - I always read it as Jack being unwilling to break up a relationship. I think that if Gwen would have broken up with Rhys, he'd definitely would have gone for it, but he was not willing to be used as an excuse/catalyst to break up a marriage - especially because he essentially knows he sucks at relationships, so he knew he'd be leaving Gwen with nothing.

With Ianto, such attachments were not an issue - on the contrary, Ianto just lost his girlfriend in a pretty nasty way, and one could argue he started the relationship because he himself was damaged too, and they comforted each other in that sort of way.

Sometimes I feel like the only one who didn't really care about Jack/Real!Jack. It seems like a lot of people really liked the pairing and thought they were beautiful together (and hot!), but for some reason I couldn't see it.

Really? I thought no one but me liked that pairing! And when Janto rolled around, everyone was fangirling over them and I just went: "Eh."
I think it might be because I found a clip of the Jack/Jack kiss scene before I even knew what Torchwood was.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-08 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
That was a nice episode but I don't really ship it. I didn't like the kiss and I feel like the only one. The kiss between Jack/Ianto in To the Last Man was much, much better. JMO.

I was never interested in Jack/Ianto in the first place, but Jack/real!Jack - oh yeah, fell for them immediately. ♥

(Anonymous) 2012-10-08 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
YANA, anon.

What I really loved about this pairing was that Jack and real!Jack were equals in a lot of ways. Not only in rank, but also in experience - real!Jack might have been someone Jack would have opened up to.

As for what happened to real!Jack once Jack and Tosh left, well, the fact that two people vanished into a glowing portal probably stole the thunder. I like to think that everyone there kind of reached the silent agreement that none of that ever happened, for the sake of their sanity.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-08 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't get this secret? You thought that scene was beautiful, it was very lovely and sweet I agree. How can that ruin your OTP?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-08 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
OK, I'm just replying to my own comment here, I think I get that you are saying Jack/REal Jack ruined your previous love of Jack/Ianto. OK, whatever it was only one episode and ridiculous at that, but fine if you loved it.
