I'd like to think we'd be given at least a little warning about the zombie apocalypse so I could go home and change into the proper gear (and maybe grab some supplies and an axe.)

As for the "would a video game character look cool in this?" goes, that's a double-edged sword. Sure, video game characters look cool in video games, but that's not necessarily indicative of what would look cool in real life. Source: every Final Fantasy game known to man.
