I wear shoes that you can always run away in - in case of zombies, ninjas, kidnapping, or other such case where I would need to flee.

I don't really think you need to "grow out" of thinking this way. The way I figure it, you can think any way you want as long as you're getting your job and responsibilities done. Why police your thoughts so much?

We are our own worst critics. I'm pretty hard on myself too, OP. I think it takes a lot of patience and desire to retrain your brain and the way you think. Just keep trying. <3
