Re: Ships you like because you KNOW it's fucked up
Picard/Q. Just...Picard/Q. The power differential and rage-inducing blithe overrunning of boundaries and wishes is terrifying to a delicious degree.
James Kirk/Gary Mitchell. Sweet mother of god how I worship it.
In fact, I generally love hero/villain pairings where they used to be friends or acquaintances before they became enemies. If they didn't know each other beforehand it generally doesn't work unless they're personal archenemies, but loooove the exploitative nature of guilt/regret-ridden pairings. Xavier/Magneto, Dr Doom/Reed Richards, Tony Stark/Madam Masque, Spike/Angel, Batman/Harvey Dent....not Thor/Loki because I have an incest squick, but I love the gen equivalent.
Cartman/Kyle from South Park is one of the few extreme hatesex pairings I actually like, since they're "friends" and are expected to associate all the time in canon.
Kim Possible/Shego is never written with the dripping hatred and viciousness I want it to be written with, but it's awesome nonetheless.
The power dynamics of Nick Fury/Tony Stark are pretty much intractably exploitative on all levels, which is exactly what I like about it.
Miss Piggy and Kermit is technically all kinds of abusive, but the fact that Kermit genuinely gives no fucks about the fact is enough to make me not care.
I love Loki/Natasha and Loki/Tony only if it's noncon, regardless of which side is doing the noncon-ing.
Harry/Fred/George. I don't even want to explain my weakness for this.
I know there's more I can't think of right now...
Oh. I generally get pissed off whenever someone insults a pairing (usually between a really screwed-up crazy guy and a less-developed normal love interest girl) with "she deserves someone normal!" Uh, is it too much to hope that maybe she doesn't want normal? Because that would make her character so much more interesting and also wouldn't be massively condescending? (read: soooooo many canon superhero romances) It's different if he actually treats her badly, but other than that...yeah, I generally sideeye that rationale.
