Ships you like because you KNOW it's fucked up
(Anonymous) 2012-10-07 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)So, my question is what ships do you like for any of these reasons listed? Are there any ships you like because they're deliciously fucked up and can't end well for one or both of the characters?

Picard/Q. Just...Picard/Q. The power differential and rage-inducing blithe overrunning of boundaries and wishes is terrifying to a delicious degree.
James Kirk/Gary Mitchell. Sweet mother of god how I worship it.
In fact, I generally love hero/villain pairings where they used to be friends or acquaintances before they became enemies. If they didn't know each other beforehand it generally doesn't work unless they're personal archenemies, but loooove the exploitative nature of guilt/regret-ridden pairings. Xavier/Magneto, Dr Doom/Reed Richards, Tony Stark/Madam Masque, Spike/Angel, Batman/Harvey Dent....not Thor/Loki because I have an incest squick, but I love the gen equivalent.
Cartman/Kyle from South Park is one of the few extreme hatesex pairings I actually like, since they're "friends" and are expected to associate all the time in canon.
Kim Possible/Shego is never written with the dripping hatred and viciousness I want it to be written with, but it's awesome nonetheless.
The power dynamics of Nick Fury/Tony Stark are pretty much intractably exploitative on all levels, which is exactly what I like about it.
Miss Piggy and Kermit is technically all kinds of abusive, but the fact that Kermit genuinely gives no fucks about the fact is enough to make me not care.
I love Loki/Natasha and Loki/Tony only if it's noncon, regardless of which side is doing the noncon-ing.
Harry/Fred/George. I don't even want to explain my weakness for this.
I know there's more I can't think of right now...
Oh. I generally get pissed off whenever someone insults a pairing (usually between a really screwed-up crazy guy and a less-developed normal love interest girl) with "she deserves someone normal!" Uh, is it too much to hope that maybe she doesn't want normal? Because that would make her character so much more interesting and also wouldn't be massively condescending? (read: soooooo many canon superhero romances) It's different if he actually treats her badly, but other than that...yeah, I generally sideeye that rationale.

Harley Quinn and the Joker (as well as Batman/Joker because it's pure crack and nightmare fuel)
Mayo and Angel from Strain
Merlin and Morgana

(Anonymous) 2012-10-07 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)Cronus/Mituna
Buffy/Spike (every time I see fluff written about them, I die a little bit)
Voldemort/Peter (I DON'T EVEN KNOW)
Peter/Stiles
Iceman/Loki

(Anonymous) 2012-10-08 02:26 am (UTC)(link)Snarry, Sebastian/Ciel, Anders/Fenris, Thor/Loki, SanSan, Vilkas/Farkas, Sephiroth/Cloud, Wikus/Christopher, Dean/Castiel, Hope/Lightning, Shinji/Kaworu, Kain/Raziel, Jesus/Judas, Fayt/Albel, Balthier/Vaan, Ender/Peter/Valentine, Ted/Barney, and I'm sure there's lots more that aren't coming to me right now.
Re: Ships you like because you KNOW it's fucked up
(Anonymous) 2012-10-08 03:06 am (UTC)(link)Not that I can see Dimitri wanting anything to do with Clive post-canon anyway. I really want pre-canon fic with Clive manipulating the fuck out of Dimitri, but no one ever writes it.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-08 04:12 am (UTC)(link)And I'm not talking about portrayals of them that border on being healthy relationships. I can only read when they're 100% royally fucked up, and it often freaks me out, but I can't pull away.
In the Prime 'verse, I ship Starscream/Arcee so hard, and that's pretty messed up, too. Oddly enough, Transformers is the only fandom do this with. My other fandom pairings are kinda bland in their normality.

But I ship them in part because after Sydney stops using that mind-control power, despite Sydney's incredible power and immortality and general dominance in everything, Hardin has the balls to get up and tell him "NEVER do that again." And Sydney says nothing in his own defense, just walks away.
I was pretty much sold on the pairing right then. So messed up, those two. So unhealthy. But the rest of their interactions show that there's mutual respect, and Hardin's clearly not following Sydney because he's immortal or because he thinks Sydney's infallible, but because Sydney is Sydney.
Over in Ace Attorney fandom, I sort of fell in love with the idea of Kristoph/Phoenix during the years between AA3 and AA4 just because both of them are just biding their time, spying on the other, waiting to make their move. Kristoph is pretending to be Phoenix's friend just in case he figures out who screwed him over and starts making trouble, so he can dispose of him, and Phoenix already knows, but is pretending to be clueless and gathering info so he can avenge himself. Incredibly precarious balance there, mutual hate masquerading as friendship even in canon. Adding the extra dimension of a relationship into that? HNNNNG.
