It is an interesting concept. Seeing as an omegas position is indicated in part by their biology (going into heat, needing an alpha to fuck it away), what kind of policy could be put in place to make that kind of dynamic equal?

It doesn't have to be inequal in the first place. You don't have be have a timid/pliant personality to be sexually submissive.

Mind, I've not read many Omegaverse fics, so it could be way more squicky with the dynamics than I think it is.

well yeah, obviously. but this isn't a D/s verse where the topping/bottoming is purely psychological. It's based pretty heavily in the biology as well. And since your mind seemed unsoiled of the details, I'll leave it at that.

That's what squicks me out about omegaverse stuff so much--I hate the idea of being forced into a role for purely biological reasons. It's...it's creepy.

Yeah, when I looked up what an omegaverse was, I kinda felt a little bit like, we already LIVE in one. We just call alphas "men" and omegas "women."

That kind of squicked me out to think about. I don't want to be an "omega," but I'm female.

Most gender roles aren't biological imperatives. Their social conditioning. There's a difference.

P.S. Yes we are the baby incubators, yes this does have a bearing on some power dynamics but I am loathe to believe that every single gender role is directly dependent on this fact. Especially considering the amount of autonomy women in third world countries now have over their reproductive happenings.

Yeah, but people don't seem to like to believe that. I mean, I don't have to have children, and I don't have to be in a relationship, so it doesn't HAVE to affect my life. But I don't really like having to choose to be single forever to not be a relationship where I'm the "omega."

And yeah, some people will say it doesn't have to be that way. But I haven't met anyone who thinks like that in real life yet. At least, I haven't really met anyone who would believe and accept that I don't want to be that.

Don't give up hope. Go out an socialize in groups that are likely to share/support your needs. (Geeky, hobby, even kink, whatever). Be upfront with what you want, always.

Trust me when I say you are not unique in your wants. I'm still in a relatively insulted living situation but I've STILL managed to find like minded people and am holding out for the day when I have the means to go out and find more.

We are changing everyday. Statistically, relationships are becoming more and more equal in terms of finances and other things.

I don't want children. Ever. Sexually, I'm into BDSM. I'm a switch, which means I can fit in the female sub stereotype and get laid like that. But I also like to dominate men, and fuck if that isn't a fucking minefield and a half to navigate. I have pretty strong poly tendencies. I have certain needs in a relationship that aren't conventional. My ideal relationship looks way different from the norm.

Still, I'm convinced there's someone out there for me. My dream isn't cookie cutter but I damn well wouldn't want it to be. You were born in this world a woman. That means there are certain expectations placed on what you "should" do. But just like you grow up and realize that you can't indefinitely let your parents make all your decision for you if you want to live your life, you have to let go of whatever bullshit you think you're stuck with and pursue what you want.

...okay, whoa. I have lots of feels about this.

What I find interesting is that at least on the kink meme, the guy who gets written/prompted as omega the most is Tony. Generally as secret!omega having to hide his omeganess in order to be his company-running asshole self without harassment.

I still don't like omegafic, but it's at least ducking the stereotype.

It doesn't have to be an unequal social dynamic regardless of biology. Why would the omega automatically be the submissive party in their need to have sex? Why would the omega always be the weaker party incapable of putting alphas in their place? Why does "heat" translate to "passive and needy" instead of "vicious and demanding"? Especially considering many omegaverse stories feature relationships between men of roughly equal strength who can penetrate each other. Only pregnancy seems like a reasonable obstacle to equality, but omegaverse fic that includes a healthy female population rarely explains why women wouldn't still be the primary expected birth-givers of society, with omega males free to choose as they like.
