I've thought about things like this too. What if someone in an omegaverse was an omega, but didn't like their role or the way they were treated. Maybe because I feel like I would probably be an "omega" myself, but really wouldn't want to be.

But yeah, most people are doing it to have sex with those kind of roles, so I guess they wouldn't bother to have people who dislike their role or don't want to be treated the way they are.

No, you know, I sometimes feel this way about slave AUs that obviously exist only for the kink. Especially when the writer lovingly details how poorly the slaves are treated. I just get so pissed off that even the 'good' characters just accept it. So, you are not the only one.

Okay, can't help myself, really need to pimp out The Slave Breakers by maculate_giraffe here. It's an original slave AU and it's very well done. Yeah, there's some sex but it really isn't the kind you usually associate w/ slave AUs. It explores the politics of slavery, the dynamics of someone literally owning you, slave heirarchies. There's even a social justice angle -- characters pushing for reform. (Complete with what I dub the "SJW" character -- well meaning, idealistic but basically out of touch with reality.)

It is an interesting concept. Seeing as an omegas position is indicated in part by their biology (going into heat, needing an alpha to fuck it away), what kind of policy could be put in place to make that kind of dynamic equal?

Forgive me for asking, but what exactly is Omegaverse? I have a shaky idea and I know it's most likely not something I want to get involved in, but I'm curious.

There were lots of hints of this back when Stargate Atlantis fic was a big deal. A bunch of fics that dealt with John being an Omega, but also accidental military leader of the expedition, and what that meant and how people worked with it in a survival situation.

They all sort of ended up with the sex though and never properly went through to the end of the ideas. But the kernels of this are out there. I think it's only a matter of time until there's a fandom with the right canon structure to make revolutionary Omegaverse fic an actual thing.

I'm working on an (x-men:fc) fic that's basically this. Charles is an Omega that can pass due to his family's money and is trying to get reforms the legal way. Erik has been abused his whole life and is full on fucking destroying everyone.

"Heat" is nothing but more Alpha regulated bullshit to keep the Omegas controlled and oppressed.

I would so read that and then when I was done I would read it again. I would totally go for battles, public beheadings, political shitstorms. I'm really interested in how Alphas would react to Omegas doing this too. Would some join them? Others resist? Others just not believe it was happening? And then the Omegas. Would they stay unified for the whole revolution? Are they're different factions? Would some of them side with the resisting Alphas?

If someone did a story like that they would have a lot to work with.

GOD YES. Also, fic where sexual orientation is actually involved. Like, say you're an alpha. Are you into all omegas? What about other alphas, can you be attracted to them too? What about only other alphas? What about only male omegas or female omegas? What are betas even for???

That was pretty much the only reason I used to glimpse through omegaverse fics, in the hopes I'd find something like that. I gave up when I realized my kinks - mutual control, femdom, challenging the status quo - just don't have a foothold in that part of fandom. And that's fair, just disappointing.

Hahah omegaverse is practically the polar opposite of my own kinks, so this is the only thing that would ever get me to read a fic of that ilk.

What if the omegas did indeed revolt? Started a movement that got enshrined in law that heat is not consent? Or discovered a means of suppressing heat altogether (a la hormonal birth control)?

I would kill for a fic with an asexual omega that doesn't want any children. Seriously. I view the Omegaverse with the greatest amount of dispassion and "meh", but I would really, REALLY like to see that fic.

I've always thought this! Omegaverse slightly baffles me, partly because it only really shows up in fandoms I only stay on the fringes of, not my main fandoms - but it does hit some kinks so I've read a few fics for it. I always imagine scenarios like this though. Like, there's always that person in fic who's totally shocked that they're not an alpha or whatever but then quietly settles into their role. But surely that wouldn't happen to everyone! Haha, yeah, I'm that person who accuses their porn of being unrealistic.
