Fusions!

(Anonymous) 2012-10-08 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I love fusions in fic. I love it when the characters from a show or a movie I like are attending Hogwarts or are a Stargate team or are in a gaxaly far, far away or are running around Florin and Guilder. What kind of fusions do you like?

I write fusions. :D My favorites are anything crossed with Original Trek; anything with BtVS/AtS; and I'm kinda hankering for seeing a fusion in my favorite universe with The Hunger Games. Or maybe Gladiator. Same thing, different time period. XD

crossovers!

I'm not too big on fusions, but I am a sucker for crossovers. I love seeing characters from different canons interacting and adapting and seeing how the author will mesh the two universes.

Not fic, but I've seen some things I really like in graphics-form. Pretty much anything and A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones, but especially the DC universe and ASoiaF.

What I would give to see a good crossover fanart of Homestuck and Touhou together, preferably with insane amounts of scenery porn around the characters. Example: Sollux and Nue fighting in the sky during a sunset. What I would give...

I love fairy tale/mythology/folklore, and well as just modern-movies-or-shows-or-books-told-in-the-style-of-pre-19th-century-storytelling.

One of my favorite fusion fics ever was a fusion of Marvel comics and Hans Christian Andersen's "The Snow Queen" with Steve in place of Gerda, Tony in place of Kay, and a load of other Marvel characters as all the supporting characters in the original fairy tale, plus a bunch of new ones that fit into the various plot twists of the original fairy tale in awesome inventive ways (Bucky as the Little Robber Girl Boy, natch). And a hilarious little vicious dig at the deconstructionalism and post-modernism of modern comics in the opening anecdote. The fact that so many Marvel characters already have animal-based names to start with really comes in handy for a fairy-tale fusion -- wasps and ants and spiders and falcons and hawks and mockingbirds, oh my!

In my favorite stories (regardless of type or fandom) there's always a small detail in one of the canon backstories that simply "hijacks" the fusion. For example, in a "Notting Hill/SGA" McShep rom-com AU, the story would get on a tad different tangent after that spilled orange juice when they meet. I'm possibly not making any sense...

In short: I adore fusions too. :-)
