it is not the exact same thing

asexuals always try to draw comparisons between the oppression lgbtq people face and the 'oppression' that asexual people face, it's annoying as fuck

lesbians often like slash because of the dynamics of the pairings, because slash is about queer relationships. the comment about bisexuals having to like every gender equally is just bullshit in general and has even less in common with the doubts op outlines in their secret.

being asexual, on the other hand, means you don't have a libido. it means you're not interested in sex at all. so, okay, you can ship characters and appreciate them aesthetically, but if you're getting off to porn? you don't have 'no libido' and you're not 'not interested in sex at all'. you just aren't interested in having sex in real life. which is perfectly fine, but it doesn't mean you're asexual.

(and don't give me the AVEN definition of asexuality because their definition is a bunch of bullshit that means, basically "you can identify as whatever if it's what you need to say to make yourself feel like a special, special snowflake")

asexuals can have a libido because libido is biological.
it's not directed at anything it's just there.

getting off to porn about fictional characters means you are not actually asexual

because it means you are sexually attracted to those characters

sorry

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
lmao

libido =/= getting off to characters. It means you feel horny/aroused at times. You can masturbate without thinking of something sexual you know...

Keep on telling people why they do the things they do.

It'll work out well for you in life.

As someone who heavily projects onto/identifies with characters that I ship, to the point where I am almost always shipping me + crush or gf, I sorta get where you're coming from.

But some people don't do that project/identify thing when they enjoy pairings. There's also fans that don't get into characters at all until thinking about them in a pairing dynamic.

i'm not talking about shipping

i'm talking about getting off to porn

shipping can be done no matter what your orientation is

getting off to porn, though? not really.

I'm asexual, and sometimes I masturbate. It's easier of there's piano music (in before "piano-sexual" comments), I don't know why. But masturbating to a porn video makes sense; the sounds are the same whether it's you and your hand or you and another person.

*sigh* If I ship Jane/Bob - not even sexually, just romantically - it does not necessarily mean I'm sexually attracted to Jane and/or Bob. It doesn't mean I want to fuck Jane and/or Bob. It just means I like them together. What about "getting off to two characters having sex =/= actually wanting to have sex with them yourself" is so hard to understand?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Now I'm even more confused. >_<

Help me understand this please.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
What, libido?

Sometimes people just get aroused. There doesn't have to be a person who is arousing you.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
there are genuine asexual people in the world. they don't have libidos.

then there are special snowflakes that have libidos but want to pretend they're different and unique from those dirty sexual people, and they adopt the term asexual to validate their special snowflake feelings.

Everyone is driven to have sex. It's just the people they're driven to have sex with are different. Same sex? Gay/lesbian. Both sexes? Bisexual. Different sex? Straight. Any sex, regardless of where it falls on the so-called "gender binary?" Pansexual. And then there's demisexuality, which I'm not very familiar with. No sex? Asexual. Luckily, masturbation doesn't require any of those things.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
but you can have libido without it being toward any gender...? I see where you're coming from, but because it doesn't happen to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen to anyone. You can have libido and still have absolutely no attraction to any gender.

You remind me of one of my lesbian friend who once argued that bisexual people didn't exist because if she could act straight she would.
... yeah I didn't get it either.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I get that, it's the view my mom has. It more proves your friend's monosexuality in the face of a world that wants vagina havers to love the cock than anything else.

In a perfect world, no one gives a shit who you have relationships with. In the real world, there is pressure to be straight, and the false assumption that if you can chose a m/f relationship, that option is more desirable.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
That's like saying there are genuine gay people and then there are special snowflakes who pretend to go both ways just to be different from the rest.

Seriously who are you to tell people what they should or shouldn't feel? Every heard of asexuals who strictly masturbate because they don't get aroused by another person or don't like to be touched? Please educate yourself of GTFO my Internet.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
lmao no, no it isn't

quit trying to draw false parallels between the ~stigma~ asexuals face and the actual issues lgbtq people face

~real aces can have libidos too, dicklord. libido is a desire for sexual activity. asexuality refers to the state of not being attracted to people of any gender. aces can still get horny. stop being fucking stupid and do your goddamned homework.

lesbians often like slash because of the dynamics of the pairings, because slash is about queer relationships.

Really? That's the only reason Lesbians like slash not because God forbid it might turn them on?

Anon, stop trying. It makes you sound ridiculous.

Besides the secret has nothing to do with oppression. It has to do with the validity of asexuality which is nobody's fucking business just as the validity of lgbt isn't.

I didn't even bother reading the rest of your post because it's so ignorant it makes my eyes water. Go hang out with some homophobes you fit in better with them.

THANK YOU!

One of my favorite ships in Glee is Kurt/Blaine, and yes, it's the thing I consume most, because there's just so much more of it than my actual favorite ship, which is Santana/Quinn, of which there seems to be a grand total of two fanworks for. I think Kurt and Blaine are cute, and Santana and Quinn are beautiful. That doesn't make me any more or less of a panromantic asexual than anybody else.
